Finished S2 of The Fall, not as good as S1 but it was OK. I hated the ending, I mean WTF.

Spoiler:
No need to have the dipsht gangster go up into a group of police and kill Paul while he was handcuffed to a cop, nobody that stupid would run a gang or at the very least be out of jail. He was so dumb he would have done something to put himself away for a long time.

Maybe the season wasn't as good because Paul wasn't killing anyone like S1.

Colbert starts tuesday.

Jeb Bush is going to be on Tuesday, apparently he pulled some shady fundraising stuff related to his upcoming appearance on the show.
Here is Colbert calling him out for it.

Now that Scream is over, get ready for Scream Queens. I am hoping for an American Horror Story type show.

First episode was nothing special. It was just a late night talk show.

Colbert is awesome and he'll do a great job, but it's still just going to be a late night talk show, methinks.

I thought it was a great first episode. He's going to take a fair amount of time finding his own voice now that he doesn't have to play the character of Colbert, and he even referenced that. I thought the clooney interview was whatever but the bush interview was great.

I didn't see anything that led me to believe this show is going to be anything special. I remember when Letterman was new and I thought this guy is goofy and crazy, but he looks like he is having fun.

I just felt like Colbert came across a, cookie cutter talk show host. Nothing that I feel compelled to tune into on a regular basis.

I just read that there's gonna be a Bill Burr animated sitcom on Netflix in late 2015, based on his act. Can't ****ing wait, he's my favorite stand-up right now.

Considering he's having serious guests not just celebrity fluff it's already a huge departure from other nightly talk shows.

I'm pretty much done with all talk show hosts except for John Oliver.

I watched first half of Colbert last night and was hugely disappointed. Monologue was poor, his political bit was weak and so toned down from what he would have done on CC. Interview with Biden was pretty much all fluff questions and not funny. Might check out another episode or two, but I think the new format just doesn't suit his strengths.

ya pretty let down as well.
i thought he might do something to reinvent the late night genre but it's basically the same and now that he's on cbs he can't bring on the more obscure really interesting guests he got on cc that made for really great interviews.

like why the **** am I watching him interviewing scarjo?
she has nothing interesting to say and it was just boring as ****.

hes such a brilliant and intelligent guy but so far it seems like he's completely lost his edge and it's really a huge let down.

unless something changes dramatically I doubt I'll continue to watch.

full disclosure I don't enjoy any late night shows, but was such a huge fan of colbert I thought he might convert me.

thank god for jon oliver.

Did you think he was going to reinvent a genre in 2 nights?

well he's done zero to indicate any desire to.
I mean he's working within the exact same format.

he's not really suited to monologues so I thought he might do something different.

the formula for the show is pretty much exactly the same as the rest of late night.

can you point out anything that seems new or original?
anything we've never seen before in late night?

it's not like I'm 100% writing him off after 2 episodes (I did say if something changes I'll stick with it) but the fact it doesn't seem like he's trying to change the format of the show at all is what's really disappointing.

another thing is by and large there aren't many celebrities I really want to hear interviewed and I understand he has to have the big name stars on so I don't blame him for that but it's one big reason I never got into late night.

the show is basically a brief monologue, which I don't think particularly fits his skill set, brief desk peice, which is clearly his strong suit, then the majority of the show is him talking to some celeb.

I just don't think he was going to change anything structurally in the first episodes. I think the jeb interview showed that he's not just going to pander, which is what most of late night is these days. That's enough to show me that he's going to be doing new things. It's still the late show on CBS, it's not HBO, so he's never going to have as much mobility as john Oliver, but I do think Colbert is a once in a lifetime talent comedy wise, so Im going to have faith he'll find ways.

The opening piece with the national anthem was very untraditional, for example. Out of studio, no celebrities (except for the obvious cameo at the end), and a digital piece. Was it groundbreaking? No, but it's untraditional especially for the very opening of a new host

I agree 100% with a once in a lifetime talent which is why I'm giving it a shot at all.
I normally watch zero late night (aside from very occasionally watching the interview segment with craig ferguson as he was a phenomenal interviewer).

like I said I watch no late night so don't have a great frame of reference (I just assume all the opening bits are terrible) but man that opening but with the football players n bill cower was AWFUL.

not a knock on colbert cuz like I said I'm sure that's just the sort of vanilla middle american pleasing stuff all the shows do, but I was hoping he would have more creative control and not pander quite as much to his corporate overlords.

this is the same guy who got in alot of heat from viacom when he created his superpac.

obv harder to be that outrageous on network tv but thought there was a middle ground.

I mean that bit was painfully unfunny.

Honestly though the basic formula is the same and while he has a built in audience from CC, if the perception from new viewers is that he is not doing anything radically different from the other late night shows, what is their motivation to tune in? He could, suprise me, and be a huge hit on CBS but I don't see it happening. There is no wow factor just oh, another talk show.

But he didn't do that the first week of the Colbert report. For a national spotlight on a top 2 late night program I'm willing to give him several months to "break the mold" or whatever were all expecting him to do. Network TV is much different than Comedy Central or HBO

I'm just not sure what everyone was expecting if you've been disappointed in 2 episodes. Unless like RBK said you're not familiar with late night tv shows and just sort of assumed it would be a juiced up version of the Colbert report
