I guess I'm going to give this a shot, but man, I really disliked the book. And it is right in my wheelhouse, I should have loved it.
Everyone was raving about it and, after reading it, I remember telling my wife that the book reads like the author wanted to make a movie so he wrote a Dark Matter screenplay. He didn't have success getting the movie made so converted the screenplay into a novel.
It was a weird experience reading Dark Matter. It really felt like it didn't want to be a book and it was necessary step to getting a movie (or tv show) produced.
I'm obviously not saying this happened, it's just the impression the novel left me with.
