The three Department Q films, in chronological order, are called "The Keeper of Lost Causes "The Absent One", and "A Conspiracy of Faith".

I gave these a shot and was surprised how well made they were. Lot of nice touches, good directing, great editing, nice camera shots way above what is typical for a police detective procedural drama. The villains in the Absent One (title female character performance great) and Conspiracy of Faith (great train chase scene) are done well. BTW there is a high rated 4th movie in the series called Journal 64 (2018) aka "Purity of Vengeance" which I haven't seen yet and is difficult to find. Not on AMC plus. thanks

This might be totally wrong, but I was always under the impression that all seasons of a show after the first would have higher ratings (barring something drastic like GoT or Dexter) because people who disliked the show would stop watching after the first season.

Thought there was a thread for Resident Alien, but didn't find it. Thought about it today, found that the second part of S2 premieres on the 10th.

I knew it was coming back this coming Wednesday but I thought it was Season 3. Upon further review, I see it is the 2nd part of Season 2 that will have 8 episodes, and Season 3 will be next year.

There may well be a spike like this rooted in the selection bias you put forth, but it's not at all infrequent to see overall negative trendlines from season 2 to 3 to 4, etc. A person watching The Office and getting bored in the later seasons is going to see a proper warning that there isn't going to be a significant bounce-back until the final arc. https://www.ratingraph.com/tv-shows/...ratings-17546/

It does have a "total votes" graph below the rating graph too, which I'm guessing does go down over time with each and every show, but just drawing from the Office example, it wasn't a steep drop-off.

Of course, good dramas tend to do some of their very best stuff early on, whereas good comedies tend to take a season to find their footing, since the former is more rooted in plot quality and the latter is more rooted in character development, chemistry, etc. So I do intuitively expect comedies to get that spike into season 2 irrespective of the selection bias.

How was Hanna? Just watched the first 2 episodes. Ok so far, but I keep really really hoping the CIA goons will shoot the bratty vacationing girl. Is it good enough to struggle through 3 seasons?

i liked hannah a lot. but idk about recommending it. i think you should have a good idea of what it's like after 2 episodes. it doesnt really get better. if you don't like it by now, i'd probably give up.

i also liked the bratty vacationing girl

there is a show called "the killing" starring the dad from hanna, and the cia lady. it's a pretty good detective show, if you like detective shows.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1637727/

it's got a nice looking graph too

Thanks for the tip. Saving it in my "unavailable" list . Very pleased to see another entry in that series exists. Cheers.

Trust me, you don't want to waste your time. I'd like to see a graph with 2p2 opinions of The Killing. That thread was pretty hilarious iirc

Was not able to finish the second episode.

The killing was solid for a bit but by the 2nd season was thoroughly stale

I just finished watching 4 seasons of the original series The Bridge and was considering doing the same with The Killing. But I remember watching the American version and being let down. So far I've seen The Bridge, Chestnut Man, and Pagan Peak. Anyone know of any other good Scandinavian series?

A few spring to mind worth a look:

Bordertown
Mammon
Shadow Lines (very quirky and a bit of a stretch, but still very entertaining if one can suspend disbelief).
Occupied
Caliphate (terrific limited series)
Wallander (the original series from 2005)

The Great, a completely fictionized account of the rise of Catherine the Great. Was well done and enjoyable. I was slightly disappointed it's touted as a comedy-drama, but is like 1% comedy, 99% drama (or I just have a very different sense of humour). Still was good enough that I watched both seasons.

The Harley Quinn show on HBOMAX is hilarious, incredibly inappropriate and has some great character development in regards to Quinn and Poison Ivy. Can't say more without spoiling it. I definitely recommend it.

my tastes in shows are similar

If you like snow scenes
Trapped 2016- In a remote town in Iceland, Police desperately try to solve a crime as a powerful storm descends upon the town.

if you like to watch an angry detective, try Brussels detective Yoann Peeters in the Break tv series 2016 netflix
