You need Targaryan blood to bond with and thus control a dragon. Its part of the history of Dragons and Valyria tied together with magic.

Quentyn was succeeding. He just didnt watch for the other dragon. Note he had Targ blood to even stand a chance and he still died ldo.

Dany did really well in ADWD, what you talking about?

Also I am sure Quentyn went into the blood bond link in that book too which is why he thought he could tame one of them.

and I agree with phill about dany succeeding on her first try. that wasn't a fail at all. a dragon is a dragon, doesn't matter who you are. of course drogon wont like someone riding him at first. there's a learning curve. for both of them, and that's why I love everything about dany riding drogon, it's probably one of my top 5 moments and def. my fav dany moment
