well, that would be disappointing. jon was my one of my favs all along, but the best thing (the only distinguishing part of this series actually imo) is that main characters can be killed.

I guess I ignored that warging stuff because of how ****ing terrible it is.

yeah, the most kickass thing would be for him to die and be completely ended like Eddard. That is the hard sort of **** David Simon would do. "What, you like Stringer Bell and don't want his character to die? You don't want Omar to die? Ask me if I give a ****!"

grrm really ****ed up Jon's ending on book 5, since no matter what happens you have to feel a little cheated.

even if Jon is killed off, it's hard to find justification for having spent so much time on his character and for him to accomplish so little in the end. Which is why he almost definitely won't be dead.

I'm a bit confused on Stannis too, it didn't seem like the best time to kill him off.

meh, if he actually died it would make a lot of sense for the decisions he made to have a big effect on things going forward. I wouldn't say he accomplished little. He isn't completely dead, though, so it doesn't matter.

Agreed. I'm perfectly fine with truly killing Jon Snow.

You have quite a bit of faith in the honest of the Bastard of Bolton. Stannis may be dead or it may be some ruse de guerre. What ever the case, we shold never take any public communication from BoB at face value.

For Stannis to actually be dead, we need to explain how the BoB did not get "Arya" back. Maybe Bob does have "Arya" and saying he does not is some sort of trick (although I can't imagine how this lie serves him)

The letter that Jon received is contradicted by earlier POV chapters, isn't it? My recollection is that the reader was supposed to realize it was a trap the Boltons were setting, not that it was ambiguous.

Yeah- the letter doesn't track at all with what we know about what's going on there.

I wonder if it's Mance setting a trap to lure the Watch away from the wall or something. He seems about as likely as anybody to hold Winterfell given what we last knew (which is more about ambiguity than anything we do know).

Mance doesn't have the men. I think his goose really is cooked. The Boltons are too fun to hate to have been thrown down by Mance.

tyrion won an emmy last night

gj tyrion.
09-19-2011 , 07:25 AM
Nice. Didn't know the emmys were last night.

Agreed wrt to the letter. Presumably Stannis was warned about the Karstacks (or whoever was going to double cross him) but I also agree that the Boltons are still around. They likely still hold Winterfell, imo.

Meet the cast

A few I hadn't heard about yet. Anyone know who Anton is and which Jeyne?

This is fine to post in the other thread, right?
09-19-2011 , 03:58 PM
I'm guessing Jeyne is Jeyne Westerling. Jeyne Poole doesn't do much (until book 5 obv), and IIRC they are moving some of the ASOS Robb plotlines to this season so that he doesn't just disappear for a whole season.

ew wtf at the tyrel chick, no where near good looking enough?
09-19-2011 , 10:13 PM
Gilly looks perfect. Jeyne is hideous, lol at Robb if he ****ed everything up to marry that piece of filth. Margaery looks fine to me.
09-19-2011 , 10:40 PM
So pumped on Margaery and Gilly. Davos looks like a good fit, too.

edit. Jaqen, too.

I know this is the book spoilers thread (havent read the books) - but isnt Robb obligated to marry one of "The Twins" leader's daughters? I remember pretty much all of them as being described as pretty bad looking. Pic fits the role as far as the TV show goes IMO.

Well we already suspected that wargs could live on through their hosts - the whole eagle thing from earlier books.

Thinking about it, the prologue + Bran controlling Hodor probably indicates that he will live on in a human rather than his wolf. I'd need to look at the final chapter again to remember who was about that he might jump into.

Gilly, Margary, Jaquen and Davos all look the part imho.

i'm excited to see what the guy playing Stannis will be like - he was awesome in John Adams as Thomas Jefferson.

I dunno, I think Brandon Sanderson could do a pretty good job finishing the series Although tbh, I wish he'd just write AMoL and be done with it cuz I really want to find out more about Shallan (hrm, Shallan or Jon... which do I want to find out about first...)
09-23-2011 , 06:59 AM
GRRM has it in his will that if he dies, all his notes will be destroyed and no further books will be published IIRC.

Haven't we heard the exact opposite of this a few times. That because his health was bad he has outlines specifically intended for people to follow up on his work?
09-23-2011 , 10:51 AM
IDK how I wound clicking on this thread, but does anyone read any Gene Wolfe? Cos he's just a crazy good writer writing in the sci-fi genre when he's probably the best author going around, and having gave GRRM a try he's just awful at narrations, unreliable or otherwise.
