Would he be nominated as guest actor in a drama series rather than supporting actor? If so, they should just give him teh award now.

The way Smash spoke to his mother and sis feels real, just like how Julie speaks to her parents (all the way through her teen backlash, even). I swear I'd think they're getting a crib sheet from David Simon if I didn't simply believe that they are really that good at dialogue.

It pains me to see a show that writes stories of this caliber get a fraction of the attention of shows like Grey's Anatomy, which are fine in their own right but little more than well written daytime soaps. Friday Night Lights is cinema, through and through
+1 to all of this. Season 4 is on a different level from the rest of the series entirely thus far though. I always felt like they had the tone, characters, cadence etc down right but they would occasionally stumble over a weird plot issue that felt out of place. I think they figured it all out because it's just the perfect show now. Cinema is absolutely the correct description.

thought this episode was fantastic. zach gilford really did a phenomenal job with what was undoubtedly a really tough episode for an actor portraying that character, with all of his history, and he was just perfect.

It's just such a shame that they goofed with season 2. If season 2 was as good as the average of the other seasons this would be my top show of all time. But I can't get over the rape ******edness no matter how hard I try.

Very good point. My dad loves this show too and everytime we talk about it we just pretend season 2 never happened.

Don't forget Lyla Jesus freak stuff.

I'm still reeling from this last episode, truly awesome TV.

As awesome as S3+ have been, I'm really not one for isolated vignettes or lengthy send-offs that don't service a main plot.

In S1 there was an overriding plot (winning State, overcoming adversity) which all character development had to be accountable to.

Now the tone has changed from triumphant to bittersweet which kinda bums me out after every episode.

I'm pretty sure you'll get some payoff in this regard.

Two things I want to mention (though I echo most sentiment brought up in the last twenty posts).

One of my favorite parts of this episode that no one has mentioned yet was at the wake. Saracen talks about how everyone just comes up to him so there's no reason to get up and move. And he then glances over at Coach, who has yet to come over to talk to him (that we know of, and I think we can assume he didn't).

It was such a poignant little moment. You know Coach's personality, and this makes sense. But you know that it is absolutely tearing him up inside. The shower scene set this moment up. Yet he never approaches. Giving Saracen space until the time comes. It was beautiful.

The only other thing I wanted to mention was that I love how this show has, for the most part, defied recent television expectations. There are so so so many ways that eulogy could have gone sour. Or the opening of the casket. So much could have been campy, groan-inducing, trash. But they pulled off this episode like pros, and I love them and this show so much for that.

I can't wait to start rewatching S1. I haven't watched it since it aired.

ps. One more thing. Julie started bawling when Matt leaves at one point, and her dad comes to console her. I was so caught up in the Saracen emotion, that it didn't even hit me why she was really crying until he said, "I'm not going anywhere." I realized she was having those thoughts during her exchange with Matt (It'll happen to you someday), but I totally forgot about it.

I realize this is mostly me being overly Matt-emotional, but it was a really strong moment in this show as well. Her facial expressions conveyed absolute worry and grief.

Hmm, probably. Has this season started on NBC (?) yet? Er, how does that even work? I've watched the last two seasons on T101. It does still appear on NBC, right?

I've seen episodes 1-4 from this season, quick thoughts:

Matt 'fing Saracen!!!!!!! Killing it.

Buddy Garrity also rockin' his character, he's the new Momma Smash in how he kills it every (super limited) scene. The way he sneered out "clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose" to JD's dad was awesome.

They're also doing a lot more tearjerking this season which IDK if I like, the dead dad better have something relevant going on otherwise it's just cheap. Also Landry needs to stop hooking up with hot chicks, I'm willing to suspend belief only so much (ala Wallace and that thin-ass Luke guy being stud football players).

Texas forever was great, what choo talking 'bout? Dude playing Riggins killed with the delivery and the line too, apparently it was adlib as well.

I think the effect his death has on his son is pretty relevant.

Finally saw the episode. Really fantastic. I think Gilford will be a guest star for the emmys and I think he should win one, but won't. FNL has an amazing ability to present cliches (dealing with death, losing virginity, etc.) in incredibly real ways with unmatched subtlety and death.

It's high school. They're standard for their positions, unless they're seniors, in which case they'd just be a bit small but nothing out of the ordinary.

Also, I don't understand the Landry issue you people are having. There were only three girls interested in him. Tyra was played about right, with her liking his personality but convincing herself that he wasn't in her league, and using him for emotional support while pursuing other guys. The second chick was part of the outsider geek circle, so I don't see why her liking Landry is all that odd. Even the freaks and geeks have their random cute chick that rolls with them. This recent girl isn't exactly all over him, and the guy is just super confident and has a charm. That will win your way to a woman more often than you think, regardless of the nuclear fallout that is your face.

I have a high school aged sister. At her age, she and her friends would never get past Landry's *ahem* uncomely visage to be swayed by his humour, quiet confidence and sweet charm. Like the gay dude in Mean Girls says, "but its social sucide!!!"

Insofar as it goes, I've no doubt that Jesse Plemmons the actor can pull down 8.5+ ala

Aimee Teegarden (sic) apparently also got better at teh acting, since she was credible every scene.
