Serious Doctor is really quickly becoming my favourite Doctor

Another good episode, I like the serious with a little ridiculousness, more than the ridiculousness with a little serious of Matt Smith.

When the Doctor answered the phone saying what can go wrong.

We binge watched the last three episodes and the wife told me she was prepared not to like them, but she liked them.

Yeah not a fan of the premier but liked last 4 alot other than the gold arrow scene

I think Capaldi is going to be great

Agreed. Only disappointment from Bank Heist was the terrible twist at the end. They create this great monster, only to turn it into a love story at the last minute. Did the same thing in HIDE, fantastic haunted house story turned into crap by making it a long lost monster love tale.

yeah boo, monsters are monsters and are supposed to be evil, god forbid we break the monster convention and/or throw in a 'not everything is as it seems' in there.

Also, reaaaaaaally not sure by what stretch of the imagination this was "turned into a love story". Do you even know what a love story is? How exactly is the protagonists saving a couple of elephants that were being held captive considered a love story? Oh it's a love story because they're not elephants but aliens and one of them was being coerced into doing a job? Yeah sorry that's still not a love story.

Thankfully americans won't ever be a relevant demographic for UK produced shows so we'll keep getting amazing stuff like Dr Who and Sherlock without fear of TWD audience ****ting over everything

The monster isnt really a monster isnt exactly a new concept but its a trope that is still plenty fresh. For every one time they have done it they have had the monster just be a monster like 99 times or something ridiculous. Like you had to reach back to an episode most probably dont remember to find another example and you likely couldnt think of a second if you tried.

I think Heist had a great ending and not sure how others would have ended it. To put it another way, what would have motivated the Doctor to break into the bank if it wasn't what it was originally?

The only thing that bothered me about the ending was how **** the monsters looked when they were out of their prison gear.

I liked the Caretaker episode. Clever lines and witty repartee between the Doctor and Clara. Not overly complex. I like this Doctor's "fatherly" personality. Jenna Coleman plays Clara in a wonderful perky way. They made the Mr. Pink character a little too wimpy especially for being former "seen-action" soldier. Maybe he has PTSD. I thought i saw the Doctor wearing a wedding ring but maybe it was meant to be something else.

The "afterlife" stuff is odd. I just cant work out where they are going with that at all.

Capaldi is the perfect Doctor for right now, we needed to break that mould we have been stuck in since Tennant brought the character back. He really kills the lines.

Re the ring, it is a prop that Capaldi brought to the character:

They may retcon it into the show, maybe not, but I dont think it matters to do so.

I tried watching using on demand, but it had issues just after the headmaster let the parents into the room. Did what I missed show how the Doctor and Clara escaped the predicament at the beginning or did I miss something at the start?

from what i could tell that was just one of those adventures they'd been going on that was making clara lead a hectic double life. so no, they didn't show anything else about that scene/predicament

I would guess the "afterlife" stuff ties into the season finale, A Death In Heaven.

But they did reference it because Mr. Pink referred to her being more tan than earlier and she was wearing the same outfit.

They need to develop the afterlife plot. We don't need yet another scene of a dead guy going to this paradise-like place with no explanation of what's really happening.

I would be fine with the explanation coming in the episode that deals with the plot directly.

They always develop the season story slowly, with a breakthrough just before the main episode on it.

Sure but all they've done with the afterlife plot is rehash the same scene two or three times. Either get a move on or stop the repetition.

Compare it to the crack in time season. This is just how they play these things out.

Maybe the writers want some good people to die in the episodes but the show style is too whimsical to do it in a realistic way, so they made a "heaven" for these people. I wouldn't be surprised to see a certain recurring character to end up there by last episode.

I expect it to be more than a recurring character meaning I think it could be Clara, but maybe River could show up.
