i had to take out the bj part of the monologue for obvious reasons. i was just messing around with this for fun, but i might keep working on it. and i took out the bit about the minister because this monologue needs to be shorter if there is no bj in it.

thanks amp! that means a lot to me. i have been working hard on getting better. hopefully soon i'll have something to post that i have actually put a decent amount of work into. i just threw this monologue together this morning. but i probably put about 2 hours worth of work into it, which is about as much as a television actor is likely to get.

for stage or a film, an actor would spend over 20 hours on this.... i think. i would.

That looks like fun! I want to do one!

(Pardon the LOL video quality; enjoy the first few seconds of "Is this thing on?", as this was my first and only take)

I wanted to crap all over FV's, but I just learned the hard way, this stuff isn't NEARLY as easy as McShane makes it look! Compared to mine, I think we can give FV the trophy.

awesome! hahahaha! i love it! it's a shame the video/audio quality is so bad though.

i'm open to constructive criticism. please fire away. i want to get better. i'm hoping to one day be able to compete with people like ian mcshane

maybe we shouldn't derail this into an acting training thread hahaha, but if you want i could give you a couple of pointers.

1. I never much cared for that scene, any way.
2. You're way too young to play that character.
3. It's 1000% unfair, but the only thing I have to compare you to is McShane's performance. Hollywood is full of guys who are perfect for that role, and THEY would pale in that comparison, as well.
4. Only way you enter into this discussion at all: McShane was near tears in this scene, and I never sensed that you were.
5. As we've seen in my vid, I have absolutely no business lobbying criticisms your way.

Fair is fair: your turn now.

you're right. i should have been more "near tears". that is a good note. hopefully i would have realized that myself if i had had more time to work on it.

i don't understand the "only way you enter into this discussion at all"... what do you mean?

when i did the scene you told me to do in class. i worked on it about 30 hours. my teacher said they would have had a hard time casting mcshane over me. usually he doesn't bull**** people, but i just can't swallow that one. i think mcshane was amazing. i am just an amateur.

as for your performance. my main note is that you should act more like the king. you are the absolute ruler of the ****ing universe. you have supreme power. usually that brings a stillness in a character. you were bouncing a bit. and speak more from the diaphragm instead from up in your chest. that will give you more of a sense of power and confidence.

I mean my biggest complaints were that you are young, and that you're not McShane. "Welcome to the club of all of us." No matter WHO posted that video, I'd have the same complaint.

Wow, good call. When you said you'd have notes, the first thing I thought I'd hear was, "What's the rush?" I was rushing and bouncing because I had just knocked out double my usual amount of morning caffeine.

BTW, pausing to move that chair wasn't scripted, I was just merely violating the first rule of "don't bump into the furniture". Pfft. Rookie!

I like to sing, and your post made me realize that I wasn't singing from my diaphragm, either, so in the car on the way to work yesterday, I focused on that, and wow, did it sound more powerful! Now it feels like I need to reteach myself how to sing. I used to get compliments before, so it's scary to mess with what's been working for me so far, but it's pretty exciting.

Thanks!

Haha, the Al/Jewel stuff is so good.

Here's one of my favourite Al moments, just copied verbatim from Wikipedia's quotes section. Just reading it I can remember the disappointment Johnny shows.

Quote:
Johnny: [coming down the stairs] Hey, Al. Any reason I can't share with Dan the, uh, proceedings of the talk me and you just had about me, uh, takin' over for Persimmon Phil?
Al Swearengen: Yeah, keep Dan in the dark.
[Johnny looks at Al, crestfallen.]
Dan: Hey, Johnny.
Johnny: Dan.
Dan: What’s new?
[Johnny looks down sadly and says nothing.]

Someone posted this re: Hell On Wheels

I'm prolly getting accused for blasphemy but I for one like it better than Deadwood tbh, mostly because there's more action and because there are more than just two interesting characters. I also like the plot better and how it progresses, and ofc its twists (felt DW didn't progress at all, and there were basically no twists)

How can ppl fail so hard at watching TV??!!
