i think the show has been pretty great overall, actually. IDK, it beats **** like the Office in terms of laughs.

I think people just raised expectations too high. Even the Late Night show wasn't ever consistently hilarious, it's always depended partly on the guests and getting sketches right. There were tons of awful sketches etc on Late Night that people have just blocked from their memory since they remember the high points and didn't watch each episode under a microscope.

I still think Conan is hilarious, and he makes every show watchable regardless of material imo. Sometimes the show's best moments are when a sketch kind of bombs (like the gravy boat lighthouse... which I agree is a good sign that the show is going to try some weird/absurd stuff).

Personally, I've enjoyed the skits so far. Minus blimp + Deon Cole, obviously. But with the amount of material they need to pump out every night, I think it's been good.

Even Gravy Lighthouse was funny in terms of 'lol thats so stupid'

the show needs a certain canine puppet. the star wars convention was the funniest thing i have ever seen on conan.

i also miss bits with audience members like taking the desk for a spin.

im sorry to keep b*tching here, but even his monologue jokes stink worse than ever, they are completely obvious, who the hell is writing for this new show?

skits tonight prediction - another stupid korean cartoon and a blimp bit

That's what works for me too. At that time of night, I usually just want to relax and watch some guy be goofy and self-deprecating. And Conan does that better than anyone.

Conan himself is a comedic genius, but this writing staff is horrible, he should just adlib everything from now on

I wonder if he is allowed to bring back the sketches he used on NBC? Because that would be a great idea right now. Euro Guy, Joe's Bar, Guy With No Reason To Live, the Ghost Crooner, etc. I think the audience would go nuts over those: the writing staff doesn't necessarily have to do something new every night.

I love Conan, but this show has gotten hard to watch. The monologues and skits are supposed to be the best part of the show, but right now they're the worst, and that's coming from somebody who rarely watches the interviews because they are so bad.

that's what i'm going through right now. writing is terrible. it's sometimes fun to see Conan flop and recover, that's part of what I like about him, but there's been far too many jokes that fall flat. i'll stick with it, but i'm no longer sitting down to watch the episodes, i'll be cruisin the interwebs while i watch.

I do kinda feel like Conan is to talk shows what the Miami Heat are to the NBA right now: Highly talented but very overhyped. Still, this was to be expected. You get your hopes so high, there is no way they'll be satisfied. Plus, anyone who's watched Conan regularly knows his shows tend to be very hit-or-miss, so all I'm seeing is him following that same old pattern.

Still, he's better now than he was for like 80% of the Tonight Show, so even though I don't think he's quite there yet on his A-game, he's a lot closer than he was a year or two ago.

BTW, Conan mentioned he was up for a People's Choice Award. Vote for him here (scroll down to "Favorite Talk Show Host"):

Except not. I've been an avid watcher of Conan's late night shows for years. Yes of course the skits could always be hit and miss, often too silly for my taste, but there was rarely a week that went by that didn't have at least a couple really good/memorable skits. Maybe for other people it's selective memory or something, but for me it definitely isn't. I'm really close to quitting the show, and I've never felt that way about his previous shows. Conan is still a very naturally funny guy but almost all of the skits from the new show for the first few weeks have been weak (haven't watched any from this week yet, have them tivo'd, so I can't count those yet).

IMO they should do more stuff where Conan is interacting with real people and just being Conan. Those can miss but when they hit, they hit hard

Bo Burnham was definitely nervous or something. I still think you could tell he has the stuff that hes going to be an epic comic.

Ehh I like Bo Burnham, but right now he is basically writing a bunch of puns and is talented enough to present them in unique ways so they don't get stale. He's much more likely to be a flash in the pan than an epic comic.

hmm just downloaded the bo ep. kinda weird selection of material, certainly not his best.

put me down for 'epic comic' btw. at the edinburgh comedy festival this year he had the most glowing reviews and was basically so robbed in the main prize category that they decided to set up a new category just to honour him, heh.
