The last season is by far the worst and Rewatching it was hard.

I also thought Andrew was a highlight.

The Spike/Angel dynamic in s5 of Angel was fantastic.

ANDREW: You sure you don't wanna stop and pick up some burgers or something, you know, road trip food?

SPIKE: It's not a road trip. It's a covert operation.

ANDREW: Right. Right. Gotcha. (beat) I?I bet even covert operatives eat curly fries. They're really good.

SPIKE: Not as good as those onion blossom things.

ANDREW: It's an onion... and it's a flower. I?I don't understand how such a thing is possible.

SPIKE: See, the genius of it is you soak it in ice water for an hour so it holds its shape. Then you deep-fry it root-side up for about 5 minutes.

If you're obsessed with Buffy you're making a pretty weird and bad mistake by not watching Angel. Even if seasons 1-2 aren't great, 3-4 are solid and 5 is as good as the best Buffy.

I loved Buffy/Angel when I first watched them in the '00s. I re-watched Buffy seasons 1-2 recently though and my opinion of the show dropped dramatically. You can see my opinions on the S2 finale the first time in the OP here:

In a recent ranking I did of all shows I've watched, I took all Whedon shows off the table because I can't trust my old opinions.

Regarding Xander - was never really a fan, and completely agree that he is unforgivably cruel to Buffy at times (beginning of S3). To be fair though, other characters do that crap as well. Whedon in general seems to have a warped view of how true friends and family treat each other in non-abusive relationships.

A very quick search for the word "Sepinwall" makes me think nobody's mentioned this yet.

On the "Firewall and Iceberg" podcast that Alan and Dan Fienberg do, they're revisting S1 of Buffy every week. Might be interesting for some of y'all.

Xander is so ****ing awful. God I ****ing hate him. He's possessive at every turn (jealous when Willow gets a BF, jealous of the swim team cause buffy is a perk). He literally yells at Buffy when Jenny is kill, "This is all your fault for having the hots for someone bad for you!."
He yells at Cordelia all the time, like in "Bewitched, Bewildered, Bothered" (the love spell episode) he actually says to Cordy, "This is all your fault!" No, you ****ing twit, it's your fault for being a douche-bag.
When they find the resurrection spell re-boot Xander flips his ****ing lid at the idea of giving Angel his soul back. Why? Because he's just jealous. He can't see any reason why any of them would want him back? He doesn't care about Buffy's emotions at all? What Mrs. Calendar would have wanted?

God, he is a terrible human being of a character.

I used to go to ridiculous lengths to watch Buffy in the pre-torrent days. When season 4 was airing, I was working overnight shifts as a security guard in a small shopping mall.

They had a satellite stereo system and were paying for a TV package for some reason, so I used to grab the 27" CRT TV they had in the admin offices and drag it to the lottery booth in the middle of the mall so I could hook it up to the sound system and watch Buffy at 2:00 am.

During Season One and Two, virtually no TV series were released in box sets. I had a VHS set of Becoming Part 1 and 2 and a couple other episodes that I think I paid $60 for that I wore out.

Just finished season 7.


In the end, Buffy finally became what she always wanted. She became a normal person. :*)

I once remember asking my wife how she got ahold of the original BTVS pilot (the one with the different Willow), way back before stuff like that was anywhere on the web. She proceeded to tell me something that seemed on a par with cold war espionage in terms of steps and processes involved. You'd be hard pressed to find people more passionate about a show than BTVS fans.

On that note - has anyone ever been to a convention that hosted BTVS cast members? I've always thought about surprising my wife by taking her to one but I fear that it will be overpriced and feature really minor characters that she won't care about.

Been watching a little season 2 recently...'Passion' is just ****ing amazing, might even be my favourite episode of the show. Whedon being Whedon, bringing the pain and doing it in style.

i just discovered buffy a couple of years ago. i was looking for stupid stuff to watch while i grinded so i didn't really have to pay attention. i thought i'd try buffy. i never expected to like it much. but holy crap, it was amazing!

i recently did a scene for acting class where i played spike. it was the scene where spike takes buffy on a bogus stake out, and he finally admits to her that he has a crush on her, and she is disgusted. it was sooooooooooooooooooo much fun!! i can't even tell you! i got to be spike and tell buffy i like her.

xander is a douche. the worst was when he lied to buffy about angel. willow was working to save angel's soul and he kept it from buffy.
