please exlpain to me how someone can "sound" sharp but not actually "be sharp"?

and yes David cook and Daughtry both missed their fair share of notes too!

It's all about tone. Different tones can trick you into hearing things that aren't there, if you don't listen very carefully. Guys with heavy tone tend to sound sharper than they actually are... most musicians will tell you that. It's kind of complicated to explain through a message board.

I didn't compare them, I noted that they both tend to sound sharp because of their tones. Reading comprehension FTL

imo ellen is way better than randy who basically says "yo dawg, that was hot," "yo dawg, i didn't get it," or "yo dawg, for me you back for me dawg" every time.

The order of judges is pretty clearly Simon > Ellen > Randy > Kara. Kara is beyond terrible. I actually enjoy Ellen, she had one line last night that had me laughing hard.

that doesn't mean they won't win AI9
Yeah, Katie can do it and Lee can if he finds a band.

I'll admit the singing was not very good, but the bagpipes entrance was awesome to me.

The fact that he would choose to do that makes me like him 100% more.

well ive been playing professionally for many many years and i stil have no idea what you're talking about. If you mean that thing he does when he sings something and then sings "up" to a note...yeah thats called a mistake. Didi used it a lot to cover up mistakes too. Its bascially the equivalent of saying "theres no wrong notes in jazz"

The man just missed the notes... plain and simple. If it was his "tone" then his "tone" caused him to miss notes.

either way...
perception = reality ducy?

If Lee "can't win" but Mike or Casey can I don't understand why the expert won't bet it with me. Seems like free money

i know what you mean. i'm in an awesome cover band. The singer we have is 42 and is probably better than everyone left sans Siobhan on pure vocal ability

If Lee replaced my singer, it would be a downgrade for us

Nope.

I actually would bet on Katie as having the best long term potential out of everyone in this group.

Conclusion, Lee blows

On further thing, how can anyone say that Kris doesn't have a good voice, wtf
Ugh. Lee sounded even worse the second time around. Problem is I'd rather listen to his crappy Hey Jude than a lot of the songs that Michael sings well.

I liked Kris Allen better than Lambert from a sheer music standpoint. Obv Lambert had me sitting on the edge of my seat wondering what he was going to do performance-wise. I listen to the radio a lot and rarely watch live performances or videos...soooo...the theatrics and the screaming are kind of lost on me after Idol is over. I enjoyed both during the season, but it didn't break my heart that Allen won.

Lee is terrible, needs to spend a month in the desert with only water and psilocybins or something to get the kind of cosmic perspective Casey brought to Jealous Guy.

Only Kara noticed what Siobaby was trying to do; show her awesome technique and tone in a sparse setting.

Katie is adorable and sweet and her performance was very very good.

Andrew should open for Wayne Newton, his crowd would love that ****.

I was impressed with Big Mike this week, I thought that was going to suck when it started but was actually quite enjoyable.

Bowersox is Bowersox

lol Tim & Aaron

I think if the age limit was increased Kara would try out. I absolutely hate her as a judge. Besides her always going on about the interpretation or emoting the reason behind the song (cue Simon's "should he have come out in a tank"), it's like she tries to one-up contestants by singing.

Not to mention her advice is horrible (basically telling contestants to change things up for change sake).

I was 100% skeptical of Ellen coming into this season, but I'm pretty satisfied with the job she's done. She doesn't offer much singing advice, but she can offer some solid advice about being on camera, and she's the only one who doesn't have catchphrases - she always changes it up.

Well we all know that top quality singing doesn't mean you'll win AI nor does it mean you'll sell out stadiums etc. But I don't think anyone can argue that he "sold it". He did act like a veteran rock star in that performance imo.

Lee was good last week, this week was just not good imo. No desire to hear that again. Bad song choice too iyam if you're not going to change up the melody or tempo--no way you're going to trump Paul's vocal.

Worst season ever. cant see anyone having any major label success.

Be shocked if anyone but Bowersox wins it.

Seacrest just spoiled "SHOCKING RESULTS TONIGHT" according to the producers.

*fingers crossed* go home Big Mike.

^ lol yeah foreal. Does Seacrest always bust that out during the beginning of the results show or can we actually be expecting something shocking?
