well ive been playing professionally for many many years and i stil have no idea what you're talking about. If you mean that thing he does when he sings something and then sings "up" to a note...yeah thats called a mistake. Didi used it a lot to cover up mistakes too. Its bascially the equivalent of saying "theres no wrong notes in jazz"
The man just missed the notes... plain and simple. If it was his "tone" then his "tone" caused him to miss notes.
