Cautiously optimistic, but the chances of survival have to be iffy. It has to grab an audience early, as I can't imagine Fox will stick with both Alcatraz and Awake (which I'm guessing will do ok regardless due to Kiefer).

Kiefer Sutherland is in Touch, not Awake.

I thought Alcatraz was pretty damn good escapist entertainment. For those worried about it being too Lost-ish, I wouldn't worry about it. Alcatraz is going to have mystery and twists but I don't expect it to be anywhere near as dense and convoluted as Lost.

Grimm has been on my "time to stop torturing myself with this terrible ****" list since episode one. It's officially been turfed in favor of Alcatraz.

TV by the Numbers doesn't have official data up yet but apparently it opened strong with a 3.3 rating.

The show was well done and had me hooked. I don't mind the criminal of the week type of story. The chick however better improve. She definitely brought the show down a peg.

Sarah Jones seemed okay to me. I thought Jorge Garcia was weak. Should have cast Kevin Smith or Tyler Labine.

Didnt grab me as much as Lost, but grabbed me a lot more than Fringe and i liked both.

Ill keep watching ldo, but it needs to really hook people into the major story beyond why these people are being brought to the present to assassinate a single person quickly.

In JJ we trust.

Hope so. Really enjoyed both hours and thought the casting was excellent, including the escaped inmates.

Already looking forward to next week's ep.

Just don't go and cancel Fringe, please. It gets me through the week.

They're not assassinating a single person. It seems to me that they're getting revenge on everyone who screwed them over while in prison. Jack wanted revenge against the former warden and then his brother for marrying his wife.

And the second guy, if I recall, was getting revenge for his daughter or sister or something. I forget, wasn't paying attention. But he was definitely pissed about something. Although, granted, these killings were more senseless in that he killed random people, there was a reason behind the nonsense.

But this is a lot like House. Every episode is a different patient (criminal) while at the same time telling a big story on the main character, House (Alcatraz? Sam O'Neil?)

The first guy assassinated the guy to get to the key and cover the reason what it is and the second guy failed to assassinate Lucy in the motel.

Both committed crimes around these two (attempted) killings, but both killed these two people with the first going so far as to say he was directed to do so but didnt know why or how.

There is a really good chance Rebecca's grandfather took out her partner at the start of the first ep as part of whatever this plan is too which would be 3 for 3.

I enjoyed it. Not much on TV anyway so I'll def be sticking with it. The chick is pretty fit.

I'm undecided. I really don't want to pick up a bad guy of the week type show, but, the premise has an interesting enough hook that FOX has got me for at least a few more eps.

Sam Neil is solid, and I like that his character seems pretty volatile.

I think the lead chick needs to dump Hugo back at the Alcatraz (make him the cliched' lab nerd guy) and pick herself a partner who she can take in the field.

Also, with the big reveal at the end, anyone else think the music was the exact same as they used on Lost when there was something crazy happening?

I liked it. Im hooked.

I like the cast, the chick too (clevages comin').

I'm guessing it will be 4-5 killer-of-the-week / metahistory / 4-5 killer-of-the-week / metahistory. I would be happier if the pace is faster, but it's not probable (as, this way, they can run the show more seasons, ldo).

Only nit-picking i have is in ep2 when the cop chick found the empty bullets of the sniper in the woods, she just picks it up bare handed, and manipulates it, gives it to the fat guy. I mean, I find it kinda sloppy.

Ordinarily, yes, but they werent going to hand over the evidence to the cops or get it analysed so i can overlook going outside normal evidence handling procedures.

I'm pretty sure I saw somewhere that they are specifically going light on the mythology early so people don't feel too "left behind" to pick the show up after a few weeks.

Expect a nice plunge into the deep end of the main story in March.

I went in with deliberately low expectation of something on par with Flashfoward and I was pleasantly surprised. I'm in!

With the reveal at the end he might have been getting revenge on Lucy

Pretty good. If they do the bad guy of the week thing I might lose patience but if they expand on the mythology then this could be a winner.

They've got to change the score, jeez its sounds exactly like Lost.

It's the same composer as LOST doing the exact same genre, of course the score is going to be very similar. Of all the similarities, I'm surprised the music is the one people are most hung up on.

For one thing, Jorge Garcia's character is way too uninteresting to be a lead. It's one thing when he's surrounded by an ensemble of like 14 other characters but this just feels like some weird 'Adventures of Hurley and female Jack Shephard' spinoff or something (did you notice it took all of 15 mins for a father-figure type character to insist she "just let go for once")

At any rate, the plot is obviously intriguing enough that I'll keep watching but my expectations aren't going to be very high.

Garcia was the problem. He was flat and uninteresting. He seemed lost and disinterested. Anyone else would have been better. Jonah Hill would be better. Kevin Smith would be better.

That ending from episode 2 was so reminiscent of Lost

Enjoyed it. Will continue to watch.
I just hope it doesn't take 5 season to actually figure out the source for why they are still the same age.

I liked it. I'm in.

I don't have a problem with the MOTW format. I don't think this will be like most MOTW shows, as each bad guy they encounter will serve to further the grand story arc. (As in, the big arc is wtf is going on with Alcatraz and the MOTW is that they are a team dealing specifically with the Alcatraz people that are showing up).
