Caps have more twitter followers than Redskins. Growing up, when the team was winning Super Bowls about every four years, I find this unbelievable. Blame Snyder. He is a cancer on the human race.
in all seriousness, the offense isn't what needs help at this point. sure they can get better (all offenses can always use some tweaking), but lack of offensive output isn't what's hurting the team. they're averaging almost 400 yards/gm, they're leading the league at 6.2 yards per play, they're near the top in first downs per play at .337, RG3 is easily going to pass 3k yards and might get to 25 TDs as long as he's healthy, he's got a QB rating of 104.6, and has only thrown 4 interceptions all year. the o-line is a bit weak, with a sack percentage at just over 8, but given the way the playmakers on offense have been performing, that really hasn't been a big drag. it's basically been the difference between having a top shelf offense and having a new england offense. the redskins have one of the best offenses in the league right now. this offense can hang with houston and denver and new orleans.
they've posted point totals of 40, 28L, 31L, 24, 17L, 38, 23L, 12L, 13L, 31, 38 for an average of 26.8 ppg. sure when you post 12/13 points you expect to lose, but 28 and 31 point tallies shouldn't be losses and the 23 is probably just ahead of a coin-flip.
meanwhile, the defense is ranked 28th in total defense and in the bottom 25% in just about every imaginable statistic except takeaways, which is a very good 2.0/game.
the win over the saints had the skins with a healthy 33-17 lead late in the 4th quarter, but gave up two scores in less than 2 minutes of drive time and were only saved by the skins having a drive starting at the saints 3 in between them.
the minnesota win was 31-12 halfway through the 4th and probably would have ended 31-26 if RG3 hadn't had that big run to tack on another score.
the dallas game was 28-3 at half and 35-13 early in the 4th and it ended up being a 1 possession game. RG3 threw a big interception on the 2nd dallas TD, but the skins defense, being 31/32 in passing yards allowed per game played piss poor in coverage as has been their MO this season.
the offense has been working well and is one of the best in the league, but certainly doesn't have new england status, but they're right there with the other top notch offenses in the league and have been putting up the points to show it. the defense is giving up 25.9 points per game and couldn't cover a pop warner receiver at this point. basically, we have an 8-3 offense and a 3-8 defense. average that out and you get the redskins at 5-6.
Trying to figure out if I want to brave traffic and a hellish Tuesday at work to go to the game on Monday. This is a huge game. It also would mean not getting home until close to 2am and I don't live that far away from the stadium. At least the weather is supposed to be decent.
