I made a post in some other thread a while back, they drafted something like 3 QBs in the top three rounds in 20+ years, or something like that.

Drafting the consensus best or second-best QB in the draft when you have a top 3 pick doesn't separate you from the other teams, because all of them will typically do the same in your position if they have need. It's hard to position yourself to draft that high with 31 other teams so that means you have to put your scouts to work, and find the talent others miss.

For every top 5 draft pick like the Mannings and Stafford you've got a guy like Brees, Rodgers, Big Rape, or Brady that people overlook that you can work with. And it's not like people are never wrong about the Sanchez's or Alex Smiths or Jamarcus's either. Chances are your next stud QB picked won't be an elite top 5 draft type, but someone you have to spend some picks to find and scout well.

You separate from the other teams that would do the same thing in your position by hitting on that pick. Some years, a team in this position drafts Akili Smith, other years a team in the same position drafts Peyton Manning or Mike Vick. Some years, it's better to be picking in the top five than others because there are guys that can truly turn a team around. I think RG3 is one of these guys.

I can't help thinking this will turn out horribly for the Redskins.

We gave up too much imo.

Let's say RG3 gets hurt or something... then we have no team and no #1s until 2015! Our team would be set back for years. Multiple years.

Yes, we need a good QB, but we could have gotten one for farrrrrrr less.

I do hope it works out, though.

Oh, and oust that little evil man Dan Snyder!!!

My boyfriend is a 'Skins fan (I'm a Browns fan). His response when I asked him how he felt about giving up all those draft picks for RG3?

"Who is RG3?"

I can't figure out if he's just numb from years of disappointment or if he was yanking my chain (pretty sure the answer is "numb"). Still, if this works out for you guys, I'm going to be just sick about it.

If RG3 is able to be a top eight QB, and a team offered two all pros at other positions, plus another starter, how many teams make that trade? Unless they had somebody else groomed, the answer is none.

Seems appropriate that a Browns fan would start a thread about getting plowed in the ass.

Haha, I've been getting screwed since '86!

Figuratively speaking, of course. I was 10 in '86.

Total Snyder move.

He is the eggs in one basket, Sarah Palin nominating, draw to an inside straight kind of guy. May he rot.

Redskins have taken a QB three times during the modern NFL (post '70) in the first round:

1994 Heath Shuler (3rd)
2002 Patrick Ramsey (32nd)
2005 Jason Campbell (25th)

The best (Campbell obv) would be lucky to be considered a top 20 QB at anytime during his career.

Reports say that we are close to breaking the bank for Vincent Jackson. I really hope we don't. I'd rather sign Pierre Garcon for a cheaper price. And he is 4 years younger.

i dont get this thinking. like any of it.

you cant worry about injuries - they happen its part of the game. nothing you can control.

the redskins have been terrible for a long damn time. if this blows up - how are we any worse off? is there something worse than sucking and not making the playoffs, year after year.

what QB could we have gotten thats comparable? i dont think there any big name FA QBs over the next couple of years outside of Manning this yr and i don't think there is anyone in collegiate ranks that compare favorably to Luck, and RG3. the big name this year is Flynn. i mean lol, how is that a decent solution?

i mean it cost a lot, but thats what draft picks are for - getting better. whether that is getting a franchise QB or bringing in a bunch of players to compete for jobs. i think it was about time to roll the dice and go after a top prospect QB rather than trying to get by with a journeyman.

This cap thing is complete BS and reeks of collusion by the other owners to make sure the Skins and Cowboys, but especially the Skins, can't go crazy in free agency. I'm not going to make it out like I know how the league office works, but it seems if they signed off on the new deals in 2010, the Redskins can't be punished TWO YEARS after the fact.

And if I'm siding with Snyder, with whom I hate, then you know this is wrong.
