Okay, fine, but why should I believe they'll be ready to invest that type of money when this club is ready to win, if that ever happens?

I've given up on offloading Wells, worst contract in Toronto sports history, but is there some way to at least offload Overbay? Might as well clear another $7.5 mil off the books if there's no point in spending money for the next few years.

These aren't just random prospects they are studs it would be like the Leafs trading Kadri and Schenn for Lecavalier at the draft last year.

With no hands and plays like a lost puppy in his own end. Looks like Luke Richardson v.2.0 for those of you who remembered him in the early 90s.

What's the reasoning behind sending Taylor to the A's? Too much of a future logjam in the outfiend with Lind and Snider?

And last year he looked like a legit NHL defenceman. Let's give it some time, Mr "Trade Phaneuf"

I see no reason to believe the Jays will ever contend in the East, as long as they have owners that care about making money, short of a miracle run with some young guys who all have career years at the exact same time. I have no desire to watch them suck for 10 (more) years in an attempt to build up a large enough stockpile of young talent that that might happen.

I think we'll see some team for sale rumours within the next few years tbh. Even with payroll cuts how will Rogers be able to make money with what will undoubtedly be lolbad attendance?

This has to be a concern...how bad is the product gonna be next year? For the next 3-5 years? Does this team even come close to .500 in the near future? Do the ticket prices fluctuate accordingly?

fwiw, I'm talking to a friend who admittedly knows a lot more about baseball than I do and I'm starting to come around on the trade...but what are the chances we see Snider, Drabek, Wallace, d'Arnaud et. al simultaneously hit their max potential, whilst in Jays uniforms?

They're talking about the trade on OTR...

Is it just me, or did Philly make out like bandits in this deal? Or are the prospects they got back from Seattle significantly worse than the ones they sent to TO? Because it looks to me like they upgraded from Cliff Lee to Halladay, and got $6M in the process, without losing anything

ya the prospects they got weren't all that good.
Both teams win the Halladay deal, but the Mariners win the Philly trade by a lot.
Of the 3 Mariners prospects, 2 of them probably will suck and the other one has a decent shot to be a good closer, but definitely not close to a sure thing. Or that is at least what I have gathered by reading a bunch of scouting reports.

If you are looking at this year, or even next, you will be disappointed. Loooking 1.5 to 4 years away, this all looks good to me.

I mean let's be reaslitic about 2010 folks. Wells batting clean-up?? Hill and Lind repeating waht they did (well Lind might..). Starting core still not back healthy...

The Jays could have got a big name position player for a price, and finshed 12 games out in 3rd or 4th place instead of 15 games out. Big deal. If you can't compete right away, then field an exciting young team that will be ready for 2012+

Rogers needs to convice dumb media this is a good thing, then dumb media can relay same message to average fan.

This team could be similar in ability to last year, you lose Halladay, but you gain Marcum and another year of experience for all of our young pitchers. Loss of Scutaro hurts too,
but Wells cannot possibly have a worse year.

bigt2k4,
Assuming Marcum returns to full health and is no longer an injury which is unlikely you are still insanely wrong. In 2008 he was the 36th best starter according to FIP and around the 50th best pitcher according to Fangraphs VORP when you extrapolate for the starts he missed. It will nice to have Marcum back, but if he returns to form he will be a solid #2.

Rogers owns said dumb media, and it's not working. Fans don't want another rebuild. Yes, it's necessary, but **** it, the Jays will only ever be popular when they win. Toronto fans get enough losing from the Leafs

I've heard this a lot, and I'd be curious to know if it's true. Not saying you're wrong, just saying it's all speculation (apparently). If AA is realistic about his goals, then why not? Toronto supports the Blue Jays pretty well on the whole, looking across the league and time. I can see it.

Look at the attendance numbers last season. They take a pretty drastic drop off in the last half of the season. Of course I can't speak for everyone in Toronto, but I don't think there's a whole lot of appetite for MORE rebuilding.

I'd be happy if I was wrong, but I doubt we'll see many bums in seats until they start doing something positive.

Jays will never get expo type attendance. Enough people go to Jays games as a relatively cheap form of entertainment especially during the summer.

Well, Wells and Rios sucking certainly wasn't something that a lot of people saw coming. Imagine if they played like they were supposed to and we had the young guys perform like they did in 2009. The Jays hot start could have gone much further.

With Doc agreeing to the extension wouldn't that be pretty epic?
