Jamie Campbell and his sidekick-du-jour presented a much more convincing argument on-air during last nights game than I am right now.
They were talking about the green monster and how it makes right-handed fly-ball hitters like Mike Lowell and Jason Bay appear a lot better statistically than they truly are. Rod Barajas fits this build quite nicely for the reasons I mentioned in my previous post. Sure enough, just as they're discussing this he crushes a home run over the monster.
So a different question then. What is going to be the Jays catching situation next year?
Gaston announced that Barajas isn't going to be back next year. I agree, some team will give him more money than he's worth. Are we looking at a profit-sharing situation between Kyle Phillips and Raul Chavez, similar to the Matt Weiters/Gregg Zaun platoon in Baltimore this year? Phillips isn't ready to carry a full load just yet. Have to keep in mind that Arencibia isn't that far off, either. I have to admit that I quite like Chavez behind the dish for some occasional playing time. He's got a cannon, and the Jays have suffered through too many years of Carl Crawford racking up SB and SB off of Gregg Zaun & co.
