Totally anecdotal, and I might well be wrong about this, but I feel like a lot of our starters shove the first couple of times through the order (in a close game because LOL offense) and then get predictably dinged the third/fourth time through. Stroman in particular, I feel like, has been subject to this, getting left in just a little too long.

I get that the bullpen sucks but it's gotta be better than these guys getting a third look at Dickey's weak-ass knuckleball or Estrada's voodoo ****.

Can't really get Osuna and Biagini in to every single game, and nobody else is really dependable. Either gotta get innings out of the rotation or figure out the bullpen scenario.

edit- Biagini's run pretty good so far and doesn't have a whole lot of history of being actually good. May just be a fish on a heater.

Turns out you can look these things up. SO/BB ratios for Stroman, TTTO:

-1st: 3.33
-2nd: 3.17
-3rd 1.67
-4th: 1.00

That's the stat that most confirms what I already thought, but whatever, it's something.

I mean, Chavez hasn't been great but I'd take him for a trip through the order over most of our starters 3rd time.

if you pull your starters after the 2nd time through the lineup that's like the 4th inning. you're asking a lot of our ****ty pen

This is pretty interesting. Stroman definitely seems to break down in the 7th inning, which would certainly cooperate with the above. I do doubt there's a meaningful sample here. I would assume that those are k/9 and bb/9 or raw? Or is that %?

Sanchez is probably heading to the bullpen relatively soon, if they stick with that plan. Currently at 65.2ip, and I'm pretty sure they're planning him to go 130-140ip this year, which would suggest that they'll move him to the pen around 100ip. That suggests another 6-8 starts, or ~all star break.

Gregor Chisholm @gregorMLB

So to recap, #BlueJays likely down to Storen, Loup, Tepera and Girodo for tonight's bullpen.
let's hope MARCO has a CGSO in him

Also he rarely pulls relievers in the middle of innings. It seems like his philosophy is "this is his inning" and will only pull them if they are getting shelled.

Our bullpen has been really bad this year, but look at CWS who just blew two giant leads in b2b games after being the best BP in baseball for lots of this year. Osuna is a great closer and the rest of our bullpen still should be serviceable, even if they haven't been this year.

I assume it's raw, got it from BR. Their data for that particular split is not so good. Fangraphs doesn't carry it though.

And yeah, maybe it doesn't make sense to go to the bullpen in the 5th or (at best) the 6th, I would just like to see starters saved from themselves in close games. Ride a guy for a couple of innings for once.

It is too bad Hutch was not effective enough to spell off some 6th and 7th inning work, but I guess if the Jays were confident enough he could do that, he'd be starting.

Plus, I guess they are going to need him as a starter later in the year at some point so cant change his role and then expect him to be a starter later.

That said, have not even been following how he is doing in Buffalo.

Shulman is trying his best to steer the convo to metrics whenever he can, but Tabby and Buck reluctant to bite.

I know people hate on commentators/ analysts, but I hope I am not alone in thinking Shulman is really, really good.

Yep, Shulman is excellent, and I'm pretty sure that feeling is spread across even non-Canadians.
