But the voters don't look at much else except wins, ERA, and if your team is in the playoffs. Obv Lincecum is having a better year and I would vote for him, but I would agree that Carpenter is more likely to win.

Pujols HR #40 too.

tim didn't lead the nl in wins or era last season and the giants were really far out of the playoffs. i don't think playoffs factor into the cy young much at all. it's not the mvp.

they're not going to ignore a 40 ip advantage. and tim is likely to end up with something like 270-280 ks. this will matter quite a bit to the voters.

As long as we don't have to play you guys in the Playoffs it's all good if Tim wins the CyYoung again

But if you guys win the WildCard, we'll probs play you...I mean it would be cool if you could reach the playoffs cause I like the Giants...but just not play against us . So, win the Division!

giants have something like a 1-2% chance of winning the west. but their odds of winning the wild card are falling by the minute so i wouldn't be too worried if i were you.

Yeah it will be close due to Carpenter missing a month early but it when voters look at wins, ERA, WHIP it seems like they will lean that direction. I also think there is some merit to the whole Matt Cain also being up there and taking some votes. Obviously Wainwright sort of has the same effect but probably not as much.

I fully look forward to hearing all of your arguments at the end of the year when Carp gets his second Cy Young.

Those 40 innings are/should be huge. Surely you're not just looking at w/l records? Timmay has been as/more dominant that Carp this year. And I'm a large Cardinal fan. Unless Timmay just goes off the deep end the last month, he should certainly be the front-runner for the Cy.

Bump because our thread shouldn't be on the 2nd page, behind threads for teams who are dead in the water (Cubs/Mets/Blue Jays/ect).

Adam Wainwright doesn't pitch like a noob today. That is some kind off performance.

Well i guess if innings are an issue we can root for Waino for Cy Young. He doing a pretty good job of dominating the Stros tonight. I'd feel good about Carp, Waino, or Tim L starting a game for me, no matter who ends up winning the award.

Great game thus far, Waino continues to impress

When's the last time we had a better 1-2 than Carpenter/Waino?

Looking through baseballreference, it looks like 1942.

2009 - Carp 194 ERA+, AW 167 ERA+

1942 - Mort Cooper 194 ERA+, Johnny Beazley 162 ERA+

Honorable mention to Gibson and Carlton, who each had a 164 ERA+ in 1969.
