Penn State got another big boost to its early 2016 recruiting efforts this afternoon with a verbal commitment from DeMatha Cathlolic (Md.) High School defensive end Shane Simmons. The four-star prospect ranks among the top 30 players in the nation across Rivals (No. 25), 247 Sports (No. 26) and ESPN.com (No. 30), and he's listed as the No. 3 defensive end in the country by ESPN.
Simmons chose the Nittany Lions over Florida State, Alabama, Maryland and Ohio State. He became the second verbal commitment in Penn State's 2016 recruiting class, joining Woodland Hills running back Miles Sanders, a four-star talent who checked in at No. 42 in the first release of the Rivals100 national rankings. Simmons also represents another significant recruiting victory for coach James Franklin in the state of Maryland.
