obviously (hopefully?) a stepping stone.

if not, good for him on a solid FU SEC
If he's using PSU as a stepping stone, he'll have to win a bunch of games to get to a higher level. I'm ok with that.

Once sanctions are over, beating expectations will mean at least a couple conf champ games I would think.

Psu isn't really a stepping stone to anywhere unless it's the nfl. How many NCAA schools really could he go to that are better? If he's winning here, OSU and Michigan are pointless. That leaves basically ND, Bama, UT, USC, maybe like UF or Auburn, but going back to the SEC means playing all those schools. If he's winning at PSU he has a direct pipeline to the playoffs and a state that has above average HS football with no other power team in state to challenge recruiting.

Plus he grew up a PSU fan so he could actually just want to stay.

Maybe I'm just optimistic

Barajas bails and goes to nd. Meh, I thought it was weird that an Indiana recruit committed in that spot to begin with. On to the next one jff.

So excited about the direction of this team right now!

Penn State got another big boost to its early 2016 recruiting efforts this afternoon with a verbal commitment from DeMatha Cathlolic (Md.) High School defensive end Shane Simmons. The four-star prospect ranks among the top 30 players in the nation across Rivals (No. 25), 247 Sports (No. 26) and ESPN.com (No. 30), and he's listed as the No. 3 defensive end in the country by ESPN.

Simmons chose the Nittany Lions over Florida State, Alabama, Maryland and Ohio State. He became the second verbal commitment in Penn State's 2016 recruiting class, joining Woodland Hills running back Miles Sanders, a four-star talent who checked in at No. 42 in the first release of the Rivals100 national rankings. Simmons also represents another significant recruiting victory for coach James Franklin in the state of Maryland.

Franklin keeps owning souls on the crootin trail. This 2015 class is going to be so sick.

Am I crazy or is Penn St +1 vs UCF the lock of all locks? ML is also +100 on 5dimes right now.

UCF will be starting a redshirt freshman at QB who I believe has never taken an in game snap. I think I'm gonna have to put a grand on this one.

PSU has some serious OL question marks. They are also missing their best player from last year, Alan Robinson.

Especially while PSU is breaking in some freshmen players, this PSU team seems like it should be worse than last years. So it comes down to whether you believe that's a bigger handicap or UCF starting a new QB?

Yeah but check this out:

Quote:
UCF has to replace a quarterback who's likely to go in the top 10 of the NFL Draft. An 1,100-yard rusher, three all-conference offensive linemen, and a strong defensive tackle are also gone. Plus, the Knights were 7-1 in one-possession games a year ago, which is unsustainable. UCF has been at one extreme or the other in close games recently, and that could very easily skew in the other direction with a new quarterback.
Source.

I agree that Penn State has some major concerns at OL and at WR. But man, the best QB in the Big Ten vs some freshman. I gotta take my chances on this one. This is as good as it gets. On a neutral site too (I would make this bet if it were at UCF) and Penn St probably has the coaching advantage also. Ship it!

I love it when non-PSU fans are more optimistic than I am. Makes me look forward to the season. Hopefully the icelandic volcano doesn't ruin everything.

Here's the rankings from the last few recruiting classes according to 247.

PSU UCF
2011: 31 54
2012: 46 103
2013: 33 82
2014: 24 60

Seems like PSU should be way ahead of UCF in raw talent. This year PSU should have the QB advantage. So I like your pick.
