PSU always had strong recruiting classes. Even when they were losing miserably in 2003/04, they were still pulling in some solid recruits because for years they were the top team in that area of the country. It wasn't the SEC where you had several teams in each state fighting for homegrown players. Football players from the New England states weren't going to let their talent go to waste at The University of Vermont or something like that. Penn State was the D1 powerhouse for them. Shouldn't be surprising that kiddie rape didn't stop the Penn State football train from chugging.

Everything was done with the idea that B O'B would be there to stay. The only coordinator left over from the previous regime was Larry Johnson Sr. Everybody else was brand spanking new and set up by Bill.

Unless PSU promotes from within, a new guy comes in and starts everything from scratch. He'll have whoever Bill recruited and then it's the big unknown from there on out.

If the hire is bungled it could be square one, but I could see it working out alright if they got someone like James Franklin.

One thing is for sure, after the sanctions came down, PSU needed consistency. I don't know all the behind the scenes workings that led to lowering BOBs buyout after year 1, but I suspect admin bungled that somehow. Maybe he still doesn't stick around, but it would have been nice to make it painful to leave.

As a titans fan who has watched munchak bumble for three years: wish you don't get him. He's awful in front of the media. He seems clueless in explaining why he does anything. His choices seem erratic. And most of all he doesn't seem to get that you answer to the fans!
