I'm pretty sure the track record of Mattison speaks for itself, everywhere he has gone, hes had tons of success. Your boy Urban is the one that called him the "best recruiter in the country". I'm fine with the progress that the defense has made this year after finishing 99th in points and 112th in the nation.

Good lord this is the dumbest ****ing thing I've read in awhile.

Anyways, Michigan Defensive rankings in FEI and S&P+ (two advanced statistics) in 2011 = 10th and 26th, this isn't updated yet, but won't change enough to invalidate the point I'm about to make.

2010 numbers:
Spoiler:
108th and 86th

Think about that, think about that REEAAAALL hard.

Also, michigan has the #3 class in a transition year.

I think we should request a title change to "Ohio state football - Urban renewal". Who's with me?

Since it came out a that Meyer was going to be our coach a couple weeks ago, the only gif to capture my feelings is:

This will be me in the shoe on 9/1/12 vs. Miami (OH):

Congrats on the Urban hire. Think he is obviously a great hire for you guys, and Braxton Miller will fit in very very well in his system. Should make for some fun on-field and recruiting battles with you guys over the next few years.

Any word on who his staff will be? Most of his great staff at Florida has moved onto other jobs and will be unavailable, yeah?

Fickell will probably be DC, Spielman I think/hope will probably have something to do with the team, maybe in a role similar to Vrabel this year. I also hope that Vrabel stays on but I'm guessing even if he does he'll probably be moving on pretty soon.

As for OC, I'm pretty much fine with anyone Urban picks given his history.

I can't wait to have a HC who will actually get the ball into the hands of our playmakers any way possible. I feel like we've squandered some really talented skill players over the last few years because we've been running it so much, and our staff was only willing to run it with QBs or RBs, with hardly any bubble screens or jet sweep type plays.

If you look at someone like Percy Harvin, Urban got him way more touches than he would've here, because he realized that Harvin was so talented you just have to get the ball in his hands. Taking his last two seasons:

2007: 12.9 touches per game
2008: 9.16 tpg (lingering injuries)

Compare that to the closest thing we've had to Harvin, probably Ted Ginn, in his last two seasons (also keep in mind these were during seasons where we had the best passing offense in the Tressel era):

2005: 5 tpg
2006: 5.16 tpg

This season all our WRs combined averaged only 5.5 tpg, which is just criminal considering their playmaking ability.

His goal is to get his best players the ball as much as possible, which is really the main thing that has frustrated me over the past few years.

iirc Harvin got a ton of touches because Florida didn't really have any good/halfway decent even RBs for most of that time.

Either that or the fact that he averaged 9.5ypc and was one of the fastest players in the country.

Haters gonna hate.

You know its a good hire when people are bitter/spewing about it. I may actually be happier hearing about tOSU's commitment to bring top tier assistant coaches on board than Meyer as HC.
