Buffets all over South Bend are cringing in anticipation of Charlie's arrival. Word is he tends to binge after luckbox wins, so it's been a tough year for them.

I can't believe we're paying this guy 4 million dollars to eke out wins over a mediocre BC team with a +5 turnover differential.

what did you guys think of the late PI call against ND? I thought it was pretty harsh.

It was a very tight call. I got suspicious when the holding was non-called the next play.

Since no one wants to say nice things about Weis today, I'll add that he's exorcised some demons; by any means necessary

Green Jerseys: It was inglorious win vs Army, but hey, we actually won while wearing them, breaking a painful streak involving glorious failures vs USC 2005 and BC 2002.

Bowls: Huge 15 year drought! Even if it was only Hawaii, we needed that statistic off the broadcast.

Mich St and BC. Way too many chokes and inappropriate uses of the word "rivalry" Finally we beat them both.

Of course there's still the big streaks: Southern Cal, Jan 1 Bowls, BCS Bowls, and National Titles.

After disabusing myself of the notion that I can effortlessly take the head cheerleader to the prom (Meyer, Stoops, etc), Brian Kelley is starting to look like a hell of a back up date. To the point where I'm now officially sold. The dude flat out wins, and we'd see an insta-turnaround in South Bend.

Is anyone else torn between rooting for the Irish to win their games yet still hoping they do bad enough to see Weis ****canned?

I think that pretty much describes everyone with half a clue. Especially all the buffet owners in the South Bend area.

Wait, what? Weis is still the coach? Could've sworn I heard an announcement over the P.A. "Get lost you fat titted mother****er and don't every come back".

Well hopefully the bus out of town doesn't involve climbing any stairs or he may never leave.

It seems like ND is going to win just enough to keep Charlie. What record outs him? 8-4?

I think 10-3 and he's safe. 9-4 and he's out. Just guessin.

If he's gone, he's gone before the bowl game. I'd say 9-3 and he's pushing it, 8-4 and he's gone, although if it were up to me, I'd can him regardless of the record if the same uninspired play continues, since the only reason he's made it this far is that his luckbox is running at slightly sub Iowa levels.

Good point. Don't know what I was thinking. I'll go with 9-3 he stays. 8-4 he's gone.

Dudd,

I have to disagree. If ND is going to get rid of Weis, they need to have a strong candidate locked up like Brian Kelly or Chris Petersen. Otherwise, the ND athletic dept will have to eat a huge buyout of Charlie's contract without much to show for it. 8 - 4 might get Weis another year. Again part of that would be the willingness of alumni paying for both a buyout and a new coach's contract. Plus, he was able to break the losing streak against Boston College. So that will give Weis some leeway.

The remaining schedule is weak enough for Weis to get to 8 - 4 for sure. I'm still projecting 9 - 3 and no BCS bowl. I have serious doubts that ND will be able to climb from unranked in the BCS standings to Top 8 before the end of the season.

There no number. Father Jenkins will weigh what Weis will do in the future vs what could be gained by a change.

You could also work backwards from the premise that both parties like money and having given it at least as much thought as you.

You need to see a doctor about the whole refs-persecuting-ND thing.

I have a similar dilemma... Do I want to see domers whine about how BC wouldn't keep quiet for the alma mater again, or do I want to see Charlie continue after a heroic Holy War victory.

I think he's there through 2011, assuming Clausen plays next year, at least. Despite him achieving another signature win against the Eagles, and my deepseated fear that Charlie can and will beat me, I'm pretty happy about that.

He said watch two SEC games and call me in the morning.

So you heard it beforehand. The apparant love ND gets from the Big East replay officials at home will vanish in the coming weeks when ND actually plays the Big East, bringing 'our' BE refs as the visiting team too. Take a look back at Pitt 04 before Pitt 09

I actually like this idea. Then bring a true round robin to the Big 10.

I much prefer the true round robin of the Pac 10 and the old Big 10. But the deck is stacked in favor of multi-division super conferences. The teams get an extra home game, the league gets an extra championship game, and they can schedule more cupcakes to produce more bowl qualifying teams and get the attendant bowl money. It adds up to produce a phony reputation where they effectively can get a wild card directly into the BCS championship.

(Just for clarification. I'd rather we went back to the old system, and I'd love to see a true round robin in the Big 10.)
