He did have an Alabama offer. So instead of being grey-shirted for the playoffs, he's starting the Music City Bowl!

The Music City Bowl? Man, that's a shame. If the game were in Florida somewhere we could get a full three hours of bad "Rumble in the Jungle" jokes from the TV crew.

Can't say I saw this result coming. Should help hold the recruiting class together with maybe potential to add a few quality guys in the home stretch.

Great result. I'm solidly behind what Kelly is doing anyway.

Golson apparently on pace to graduate in May. It means he'll either return as a grad student--most likely as Zaire's backup--or transfer.

I would like to see him return as it's really, really tough to have a backup with EG's talent and experience. A transfer with a virtual guarantee to start is, however, probably in his best interest. I wish him the best nonetheless.

Harbaugh should give him a call. Hell, I'll cheer for him next year if that's the case.

Kelly is the first coach in ND history to get to Bowls each of his first five seasons at the school. I refuse to be annoyed therefore.
Add to it the only coach in ND history to win 8 games in each of his first 5 years. I'd have liked a better finish to the season, sure looked like the players just quit on him, but can't deny what he's done

First coach to win 8 games in 5 years is such a dumb stat. He plays an extra game or two compared to most of the prior coaches that failed to reach that mark, it's not like 8-5 is an impressive record. I mean, he's already lost 3 more games in 5 years than Ara Parseghian lost in 11, but I guess that 7-2-1 season is holding him back from achieving Kelly-esque immortality!

He's also setting a record for playing in bowls that Ara's teams wouldn't dream of attending.

Are me and Lloyd the only ones ITT without a moribund view of the program's future? Because we stand to be stacked next year.

I'm about 100% confident that if we don't get him it won't be for that silly reason.

Players that graduate don't need to be released. I don't know why Harbore would want a small spread qb for one year.

Dude, outside of 2008 we literally have the worst roster of QBs in Michigan history. 7-5 is our ceiling next year unless our incoming true freshman poops magic or we get a transfer.

Like, I'm not 100% confident that they do, but I'm pretty sure.

Would you like to see the back of Kelly at this point?

Why is Ara the comparable for modern ND football instead of Faust, Holtz, Davie, Willingham, and Weis? If you look at winning percentage (obviously not some advanced metric but cures the ills borne by number of games on the schedule), Kelly compares pretty favorably to the standards set since 1980. By my probably sloppy, at-a-glance math, he's doing better than the average 1980-2010 ND teams. I agree he's not Ara or Frank Leahy but on a distribution curve of post-WWII ND coaches he's probably doing better than average.

This is ldo a familiar argument since Michigan is going through a coaching change and looking at Bo and wondering why everyone can be Bo from 1970-1980. Well, that's like exceptional. I think you guys just forget the stench off the Davie/Willingham/Weis years to remember life can be alot worse than 8-5.
