Yeah elite pitching dominates elite hitting.

Agree this is a tough, tough matchup.

Royals appear very determined. Barely celebrated the ALCS. Last year's experience can only help them. They appear better than the Mets in every aspect of the game except starting pitching.

Royals have edge imo, they're a bad matchup for the Mets , annoying pesky contact hitters, they scare me like the Pirates scare me. Would rather play Toronto, Mets staff could just K all those guys.

Experience and home field are two of the most over-rated things in post-season. Royals are a tough matchup, but it's the World Series. You're going to be facing a tough team. Gotta get to the starters, but also gotta play strong defense in this series. Defense could win or lose this series for them.

Harvey officially game 1, followed by deGrom, then Syndergaard at home.

Would have preferred degrom/Harvey , but oh well. So much for that innings restriction

Agree. This is going to be very difficult to win.

The Mets offense really has to wake up. Can't rely on the first half of the lineup to do enough work for the win like they have so far. Everybody has to hit.

I don't buy into this team of destiny **** either. They're gonna have to earn it.

Still rather have him have the chance to pitch an extra game in case of a rain out or to come in more easily for a relief appearance

Fun Mets stat and interesting tidbit on modern pitcher usage.

Bartolo led the Mets in Wins, Innings, and Starts, but is not one of your playoff starters.

This is similar to how Mark Buerhle led the Jays in wins and was 2nd on the team in innings, but did not pitch at all in the play-offs.

You can ignore wins obv, but in any case these veteran guys were 1st and 2nd on their teams in Innings.

I wonder if this is something we'll see more and more. In the Mets case, Colon was clearly a very important part of getting this team to where it is, as the execs clearly felt the young guns couldn't be 200 inning type guys and Colon was an important piece that allowed the better young pitchers to be well saved up for the play-offs. Colon was worth more than his WAR this year IMO.

The fact that Colon also has been an effective reliever for the Mets adds to the value he brought the team.

Bart won me some sweet money as I had him at 3-1 to get more wins than Harvey this year and also had him with a spread.

We need a reg from this group to make the Mets side of the world series thread. They already have one for the royals side.

The stats suggest that their contact tendencies give them only a small edge. “If the Royals lineup had a 10-point-less split than an average lineup [as they did from 2013 to 2015], and they played against power pitchers every game, they would have a five-point wOBA advantage,” Lichtman says. “That is around a 1.5 percent win expectancy per game. It’s not nothing, but it’s also not something you would ‘notice.’ It probably gives them an extra 2 percent or so to win a series.” In other words, it’s worth roughly half what home-field advantage (which they’ve also had in the ALCS) is worth — or even as much as home-field advantage, if their performance against power pitchers in 2015 alone reflected their true talent. That’s worth paying attention to, but it’s probably not a reason to pick them over a significantly superior opponent.

SO we are basically holding the overcards to the pair right now. If I had to handicap this. I would place royals at -130 honestly.

I have a friend who put games 3,4,5 on stub hub in section 104 for $1100 each. Said they sold out in less than 1 hour. I think his face value was around mine $300 per ticket.

So I put game 5 on stub hub for $1300 each on friday. Just got email they were sold today.

Right now I only have game 4 left so I'm going to that one.

Think Terry just made his first mistake of the Series. Mets need Lagares glove in that big OF against the top contact lineup more than Johnson's league average bat. For a bigger bat, fine, but it's Kelly ****ing Johnson.

My $120 tickets for Game 3 went for $750 a head (they are second row from the air traffic corridor), and I priced them on the low end of the range because I wanted to make sure they sold.

lagares can always come in late, and i like kelly johnson and glad to see him get a start

id start him at 2b and put murphy at dh, but that's just me

i didnt realize it's 4 right handed starters .. so yeah starting lagares wouldnt have been the worst thing in the world. but then do what dh conforto? Cespedes doesnt want to dh he made that clear

I'm not really be concerned much with what Cespedes wants. Depends on his shoulder who I'd DH between him and Conforto. I think Murphy might actually be a better glove than Kelly Johnson too.
