Dear Omar

Jerry sucks as a manager, we agree on this. But you at least need to give him the tools. DL church, bring up F-mart. Bring up a SS or trade for one. Dont say its only May

scouts also say he can't hit a curveball yet, and plays a below average centerfield, thats exactly more of what we need, subpar defense.

Martinez is heavy on tools and low on present skills, particularly for a Double-A player, though that’s typical for a teenager. His approach at the plate is raw, and some scouts disdain his load (too exaggerated) and spread-out stance (he’s not strong enough yet). Defensively, he played a below-average center field across the board in 2007. He needs improvement in running routes, picking up cutoff men and getting his body behind his throws. He profiles better in left field, as many scouts had predicted when he signed. Martinez’ baserunning skills are another area where his lack of experience holds him back. As the scout said, “He does a lot of things wrong out there.”

yes, he's exactly what the Mets need right now.

If Church is DLd that leaves F-Mart as the only position player in the Mets minor league system who is even close to being ready to help the major league ball club right now. There are literally no other options. Kielty (hurt), Sullivan, Feliciano, Wily Mo Pena? Hell no. They are all putting up atrocious numbers in AAA. There isn't anyone in Binghamton either. Nick Evans is there but he's got to figure out what went wrong with his swing. So he's not even close. There really aren't any decent infielders to consider in AA or AAA either. Aside from F-Mart and a handful of pitchers almost all of the Mets minor league talent is in A ball right now.

why are the mets so afraid to use the DL. if players are hurt, dl them. they did the same thing last year

winning 2 out of 3 is prob the worst thing that could happen to us. it gives omar the false sense of security that we have enough right now to win

At ESPN.com, Jerry Crasnick wrote about nine prospects who could see the Majors in 2009 and make an immediate impact. He placed Fernando Martinez at #7 on his list.
There are also industry rumblings that he’s older than 20. No surprise there.
“There’s a lot to like,” an AL talent evaluator said. “But you’ve got to play him every day. He can go in and out of approaches, so he’s not the type of hitter who can play two days, then take a day off, then pinch hit, then take another day off. You need patience with him, and I’m not sure that kind of guy fits in a stretch run.”
The rest: #1 David Price (Rays), #2 Matt Wieters (Orioles), #3 Tommy Hanson (Braves), #4 Brett Wallace (Cardinals), #5 Gordon Beckham (White Sox), #6 Neftali Feliz (Rangers), Alcides Escobar (Brewers) and #9 Brandon Wood (An

maybe because once you put a player on the DL, you lose him for 10-15 days?
