The Nets may be looking across the river and into next year, but if you love the NBA this is going to be one of the most interesting teams to watch develop. If a couple key players make the leap, and one or two other teams fall apart, I think they could be a playoff team. If they go other way as predicted, they're looking at a top-5 pick, a big free agent, and another year under the belts of the young players.

Lineup:

PG - Devin Harris - A perennial All-Star for years to come. Has to keep his game up even if the team goes south

SG - Courtney Lee - Has to make the 3 and play D

SF - Jarvis Hayes - He is what he is at this point. I'd like to see CDR outplay him for time, but with our 4/5 guys its probably better to keep a big lineup

PF - Yi Jianlian - Produce and stay healthy big man

C - Brook Lopez - Another cornerstone for the franchise and a future All-star in development

6 man - Alston / CDR - If these guys can bring it, Lawrence Frank can do some fun things with the backcourt lineups. CDR especially needs to make a leap and contribute

Bench - Any hope for depth seems to stop there. I don't know what the Nets can get on the frontcourt from the bench. Maybe I should retract my previous statement (that they should play big) and have Hayes putting in some minutes at the 4 to go small. The more I think about it, that has some great potential since Yi should be able to handle the 5 when needed.

I'll probably follow this Nets team as much as I'll follow the Knicks this season, in anticipation of their move to Brooklyn (I'm from Brooklyn, ldo).

Season starts out with:

Quote:
The Nets led by 19 points midway through the third quarter, with the 7-foot Lopez bullying the smaller Timberwolves on the low block. But Minnesota ripped off a 10-0 run in the fourth quarter to pull within four at 87-83 with 4 minutes to go.
...which lead to a two-point loss.

0-1 imo.

FWIW, didn't watch the game (live in DC so I'm not sure how many games I'll get to see) but as an NBA fan, I think the Nets deserve a thread since there will be a lot of Brooklyn and Lebron talk. And I'm from Jersey so I grew up with Coleman/Anderson and was playing High School ball during the Finals years

Game 1 Notes:
Blew 19 point lead by not being able to stop a rookie point guard playing his first NBA game.
Yi/Lopez had great games. Yi played 38 mins and they completely shut down Jefferson offensively.
Hayes out 2-3 weeks so CDR will get tested early (Honestly, not the worst situation)
Lee 2-11 from the field 0-4 3pt

Overall - These are games the Nets have to win. They dominated the frontcourt and had a double digit lead. Too many turnovers down the stretch they need Harris to be the goto playmaker not just shooter, looks like from the play-by-play they were posting up down the stretch and Harris missed some jumpers. But really I think defense and motivation was the issue, how do you get lit up by a rookie point guard down the stretch of his first game. Game 1 of the season just adds fuel to the fire regarding Franks job imo

Harris is out 7-10 days meaning that our first win will have to wait at least another week.

So far, this is my analysis of the season:

Yi sucks
Lopez is sick. Williams will be sick.
Watching Najera play is just sad

Wow, actual Nets fans on these forums. Awesome.

He does exist!

THEY DO EXIST!!!

Yea, so I'm actually more of a casual fan, but I try to catch as many games as I can.

Having 7 players out in the first 7 games is pretty hilarious.

Really pissed that we lost the 76ers game, could have won that game. I said in threadzilla that this team probably wont win 20 games and I'm really starting to believe it. Even with Harris and Co. back, this is still just a team in building mode with some very young talent and no name scrubs.

Not much else to say for now, at least we know going into this season that we will definately not be making a run for the 8th spot in the post-seeason. Good to know instead of holding out false hope. Will enjoy watching Lopez and Harris, but that's about it. Even the new sideline reporter is worse now that Michelle left to host ESPN Sportsnation.

Morelike82amIright?

Most losses in a season is by the 76ers, with 73. According to various sources, the Nets are on pace to lose 82 games.

Has Jay-Z been at any of the games? Or are they even too bad for him to watch?

facepalm

first of all the team is like 50% to be moving, so lol @ this

second as long as the nets continue to wither away in the izod center they will not be able to spend up to the salary cap without losing serious $

Yeah, they should move to the rock or Brooklyn or whatever. But I meant the team specifically. I don't really care about where they play.

You guys have 2 SICK pieces in Lopez + Harris. Twill will be an awesome compliment on the wing. You're also very likely to get a stud like Wall in the draft. The Knicks don't even have a 1st round pick this year.

PG-Wall
SG-Harris (A little undersized, and he usually plays PG, but he's good enough defensively to pull this off)
SF-TWill
PF-Jianlian
C-Lopez

That is an awesome, cheap lineup to have for the next few years. Compare this to the Knicks lineup for the next few years:

PG- Some bum
SG - Some bum
SF- ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSTEEEEEEERRRRRRRR
AKA GOAT
PF- Some bum
C- Some bum

We traded it to Phoenix in the Marbury trade. Phoenix had to give that pick to Utah because of some wierd trade from 10 years ago.

THEY TRIED TO PUT ME IN A BOX

Marv has been incredibly bitter all game today - making fun of Fratello pretty mean spiritedly at a few points. Are they just really good friends that can joke around like that?
