Sometimes I feel like Bill Barnwell steals my ish, but he always writes good articles anyway. This one is on the TB/JG convo:

Thoughts on gronk playing tonight?? I'm kinda hoping they just give him another 10 days to get (even) better. If they win the buffalo game, division is all but over barring injuries
The Buffalo game? I think the NYJ are better than BUF and they have a win

5 o-linemen, derby, gronk, marty, devlin, blount, brisket. seems like we should be going for 2 often and just smashing, right?

I'm saying even if they lose tonight, a 3-1 start without Brady (2-0 in division) and they're golden.

Oh and the jets aren't good...

Maybe the plan should be to trade Garoppolo and groom Brissett to replace Brady.

Nah, BB will be able to get like a 3rd rounder for Brisket now.

But they just used a 3rd rounder for him.

The timing of all of this is incredibly awkward and someone is likely going to end up butthurt, hopefully not at the expense of the fans.
This broke the irony meter

Also yeah, all this winning and having competent QBs sure is hard on fans

The thing with the QB's is that even I said the decision between Brady and Garappolo isnt until 2 years but today Breer pointed out that the peak of Garappolo's value will be this offseason as he is still under contract for the year at a cheap price so the Pats in a trade could get more.

If Brissett has the potential where you can put off a descision on possibly moving on from Brady for another couple of years while cashing in on Garappolo then thats a huge win for the Pats.

Im still on the side of running with Brady until the wheels fall off because i think thats the best chance of winning it all.

Assuming Jimmy G is good and has trade value (both of which are assumptions still) they can still wait. Having a good QB is so valuable that the difference in comps between trading after this year and Casselng him after '18 might still be worth insurance for a year on a 40 year old QB collapsing.

If you take a step back from it and look at it all, man what a situation to be in. You got likely the best QB of all time who arguably is still the best still right now you got the luxury of talking about trading backups who could possibly bring back high 1st rd picks. BB should take a QB every draft.

So is the nfl like the nba where the team with the player on it can offer him the best deal?

Don't think so

Barring Brady turning into 2015 Peyton by the end of the 2017 season, they can't sign both. However, holding on to Jimmy for next year does a lot of good things. First and foremost, it improves their Super Bowl equity. There's a pretty big dropoff between Jimmy and Jacoby today in the event Brady can't play or declines rapidly. Second, it gives them an option to have a quarterback going forward if Brady falls apart. Peyton fell apart at 39, Brady is going to be 40 next year. Favre had the best year of his career at 40 before falling apart at 41. I don't think Brady starts sucking the way they did, but it's not easy being an NFL quarterback and any fluke injury could end his career in a way it may not to a 25 year old.

Prettay, prettay good.

The defense was obviously great and Allen had one of the better punting games you'll ever see. Jacoby was fine in a game manager sort of way, he's obviously well behind where Jimmy is though. Jacoby really benefited from some short fields last night that he can't expect every week. I do hope Jimmy can play next week bc I think there is a sizable gap between him and Jacoby and we're a huge favorite to go 4-0 with Jimmy (and a better Gronk) in there.

Though I think it's probably a bit better than a flip to go 4-0 with Jacoby in there and that's amazing.

i feel like farve and Peyton health regime was probably like getting corn with their KFC bucket. Tom Brady does hot yoga and eats advocado ice cream on a cheat day.

Gotta be much better than a flip even with Jacoby. Ten days off, at home, vs a donkey**** team without their best player.

maybe but play that out. what would the lines be in week 4 with each of the QB's?

-3 with Jacoby
-7 with Jimmy
-11 with Brady

you think something like that?

Before yesterday Vegas had Pats 6.5 points above average with Brady, 4.5 above average with Jimmy, & 1.5 below average with Jacoby.

I'm sure that's changed a bit, but that was the baseline.

The 39 year old retired major league pitcher? Probably not great...

TJ Yates sounds like a -1.5 to me.
