Please let this happen soon! http://www.twincities.com/sports/ci_...nclick_check=1

"Supposedly, one of the candidates is from the staff of a team in the recently completed Finals. "

Dwane Casey imo, and it will be a very good hire if that happens.

WTH does this mean?
Do you really think we would hire Casey after firing him 5(?) years ago?

Yes. Taylor has been texting him during the finals, offering congratulations, etc. Taylor still likes him. KG is the one who got Casey fired.

Ricky Rubio has announced his intentions, and Kurt Rambis' future also might be revealed today after two months of uncertainty.

My best guess at this point for the draft is that unless they get a can't-pass-up deal, Wolves will draft Williams at #2 and then immediately work the phones.

All legitimate rumor sources I've read indicate that Kahn is eleventy billion percent committed to getting a team that can run up and down to play Rubio's style of open floor basketball.

JaVele McGee from the Wizards has been tossed around more than a few times and it seems like the Wolves want him. Haven't seen much of him but from what I've read, he's young and athletic, the perfect big man for the sysem Kahn wants to build around Rubio.

As the story goes, Wolves would do #2 (or Williams if they have to draft him) to Wizards for #6 and McGee. However, the problem there is that Williams at this point isn't worth both a top 10 pick and McGee who had a mini-breakout year last year with 10 PPG and 8 RPG playing less than 30 minutes. Additionally, McGee isn't worth the #2/D-Will straight up.

I wonder if the Wolves could pull off #2/D-Will and #20 for #6, McGee and a first-rounder next year with some liberal protection (like top 5, etc). Could be a way to avoid Clippergeddon and still get the pieces they want as there would be a number of options at #6.

That McGee deal (and many variations of it) are just one of many potential deals. I'm not very high on McGee because he has a low BBIQ. He does have great size and athletic ability though.

One that sounds interesting to me is Gortat and #13 from Phoenix for #2 and some scrubs. I kinda like that deal because Gortat>McGee and has a favorable contract, and is 27 years old I think. This deal is being talked about in Phoenix and from what I've read, their fans like the deal.

btw, I no longer feel strongly that we should take Williams if we keep the pick. I dont have a strong feeling about exactly what to do, but I would actually be happy if we take Biyombo with the #2, even though he'll be available later.

Maybe the ideal trade would be the one we talked about before - #2 for #4 and #8. We could take Biyombo with 4 and Burks will probably be there at 8. That would be a good draft imo. I'm convinced Biyombo can be the second coming of Ben Wallace at least. He's young (really is 18 from what I hear), strong, long (his standing reach is about the same as Darko's), quick, super aggressive, smart and should be an elite NBA defender at C and an elite rebounder.

A few days ago I would have hated Kanter as the pick at #2, but now I'm thinking he might be a good player too. He's got some game offensively, will rebound at a high level, and is big enough to play C. He wont be a shot blocker though.

I guess Biyombo had a poor workout in Italy (I think) and the highest they figure he would go is #8 to the Pistons and had no floor as to how low he would fall. They talked like he might almost fall to #20.

take williams and trade beasley for biyombo imo.

to me it seems like martell webster is better than any SG in the draft, but i dunno.

Actually, the one deal that keeps coming up too is for Pau Gasol. The LOL part of this deal is that now closer to the draft we get to read delusional Laker fans propose deals like Love and #20 for Pau and scrubs.

Thankfully (I think ) not even Kahn is that dumb. While having a player with Pau's experience, size and athleticism would be fantastic, the asking price seems to be way too high. Plus, there are several other factors working against any deal for Gasol:

1) - $$$! Obviously the almighty dollar rules all and Pau is owed a ****-ton of it. Nearly $60M over the next three years to be exact. That's a hefty chunk of change for a guy who is currently 30.

2) - Kind of along the same lines - his contract is a huge risk to take on with all the uncertainty about the CBA/lockout/etc. If the Wolves are keeping Rambis on the string so they don't have to pay two HC's during a lockout, they certainly won't want to take on such a huge payday w/ Gasol.

3) - Gasol has logged 731 NBA games and while not ancient, he's probably got a year or two left in the sun. This happens to big men in the NBA with the continual bump and grind of banging in the paint and Pau has logged nearly 36 MPG throughout his career.

4) - Gasol is still a big name and will carry a big asking price. The Wolves won't be able to fleece the Lakers like the Lakers did Memphis to get him. The rumors now have the Lakers wanting either Love and/or the #2 - neither of which Gasol is currently worth imo. If his contract was friendlier, I'd consider the #2.

I'm all for adding veteran help but not so sure about one this expensive with the CBA question marks. In the end, the price may be too high.

I'm not so sold on Biyombo I just had a dream I had a 20/20 game vs him and I'm a guard!

True story.

P Gasol - no way would I give up Love to get him. I'd give up a lot, but not Love. I think you're right about the money issue too, so I would be shocked if we deal for him.

If Beasley for Biyombo was on the table, I think I'd do it (& take Williams with the 2). I dont know how realistic that deal is.

Webster - he might be better than all the SGs in the draft if he's 100%, but I dont know if he is or ever will be 100% healthy again. Burks could be really good.

Biyombo did have a horrible workout. They did a bunch of 1 on 1 drills and he couldnt hit a shot outside of a dunk. That workout is irrelevant to what he's done in 5 on 5 games in the Spanish league. He's a beast. That workout might allow him to drop past #10, but there's no way he's there at 20 imo. Despite his dropping stock, I'd take him at 2 if we cant work out a good deal. People tend to put too much stock in those 1 on 1 drills.

I wonder if the scouts have ever watched Ben Wallace or Tyson Chandler play, imo.

(I'm sure there are 234234 other examples but these came to mind first)

Kahn puts more stock in these workouts than anyone else imo. Putting too much faith in small sample sizes is the reason we have Johnny Flynn.

Here's another interesting trade possibility that is being discussed:

Bogut and he #10 for the #2 and scrubs.

I think I still like the deal for Gortat a little better because of his contract and Bogut's injuries, but if healthy, Bogut is a slightly better player than Gortat and the #10 is better than the #13, so this is a good possibility.

What kind of player is Gortat? I have to admit I never really watched the Suns after that trade and he never got enough burn in Orlando imo to really tell.

Obv this is all speculation. What the Wolves need is a center who can run and dunk. Like OKC's center (blanking on his name atm) would be perfect. Although he has the potential to be *a lot* more than runner/dunker but I won't be greedy, .
