LOL @ my predictor, thanks to Michigan absolutely destroying Indiana's defense, it thinks Ohio State will beat Indiana 82-13. And looking at the data, Michigan was just barely off their "best" defensive performance". Indiana got a 2.309 score against Akron (they give up 231% of what Akron normally gives up, adjusted for SoS), which is hilarious because I have never seen a number even close to that bad.

For you guys, it's predicting a 38-33 win.

I'm pretty sure we'd all take it.

Not to get all Dennis Green but this team is who we thought they were. Improved on offense, flammable on defense. When you have only one (imo) physically dominant defensive player - Mike Martin (Mouton is close) - you'd better be experienced, technically sound, take good angles and tackle well. Michigan's defense is none of those things, although they are definitely improved over last year in technical terms (again this is imo). As frustrating as yesterday's game was for a lot of people, there weren't the massive busts there were a year ago. It was a well executed offensive scheme operating against physically deficient personnel playing conservatively.

Next week presents a totally different challenge. While Sparty could run the same offensive game plan - ball control passing - that Indiana did, they won't. They'll try and pound the ball and rely on Cousins to bail them out when necessary. He's an experienced, above average B10 QB. It will be interesting to see how the defense "holds up" against a traditional power running attack.

This team has run pretty good so far. Other than some stupid penalties and kicking game fail, things have been favorable. When your margin for error is small - when you're trading scores (or like Illinois under Lou Tepper when it was trading punts) - it doesn't take much to tip the game one way or another. I was definitely concerned when Denard fumbled at the 1 and it became a 14-14 game instead of a 21-7 game (remember Illinois last year anyone?). Fortunately Indiana's defense was every bit as terrible as advertised. Let us hope the run good continues.

Football season for the win.

seems like there's a pretty strong southern bias.

wow if we dont take care of business next week sparty has an outside shot at running the table

sparty gonna sparty

but seriously, MSU goes 5-1 to start most years, then goes 2-4 vs. real big ten teams and finishes 7-5 a lot. Go look at 2000-2008. that was their recipe.

Sadly, I feel Michigan is going to have the same recipe this year.

Can RichRod and Bill Martin drive down to Ypsilanti during the offseason and offer Ron English 2x his current salary to come back to Michigan and be our D-Coordinator again?

wouldn't help much, not having to play 8 different freshmen in the secondary would.

no thanks. eastern hasn't won under his guidance.

and sure his defense looked great in 06, but it wasn't because of him, it was awesome players.

when you have less talent, you have to make it happen, he didn't

go back and watch UM-Oregon from a few years ago, that was ron english in action

Yeah, english's refusal to put in a nickel package against the spread wasn't exactly great coaching

Both USC and Bama are better than either of MSU and UM, so it's not that much a stretch. I'm just surprised they are going with what I thought was a CBS game.

So when we went out, we wanted to do two things. We wanted players who love football, who have the physical ability to play football and then the other thing we wanted was guys that could be coached. We wanted guys that had a father in their background because if you don't, the hard part is, some guy like me coming in and corrects you. So you're working - that's a whole another dynamic. A guy that's raised by his mom - and please don't take me wrong - but the reality is, you have to teach that guy how to be taught by a man. That's part of it."

Casteel was close to coming with RichRod. He's from WV, though, and decided to stay after they promoted Stewart.

Speaking of defense,

Why did Michigan switch to the 3-3-5, exactly? Necessity? GERG's call/favorite scheme?
