I was there yesterday and the whole stadium was pretty happy about Lawrie getting hit. It's too bad that it came after giving up 5 runs that inning. Some guy climbed over the fence to get the ball and threw it back which also got a lot of cheers and subsequently a lot of boos when security came and escorted him away.
The last 6 days has been a disaster on several levels. Other teams are trying to bring KC down amd it is working. Get back to winning with class please.
I'm fine that Herrera threw high on Lawrie. ****head risked season/career-ending injury on Esky with that slide. I have no moral qualms whatsoever.
Also in the long run I'm even more ecstatic that we put that 100MPH heater in team's minds. It's one thing to talk tough, whine to the media, whine to the umps, graze a guy on the ass etc. It's quite another for teams to know if they pick on us - they have to face Herrera throwing 100MPH in the 7th or 8th. That's a visceral reaction that goes way deeper than words or bluster. It will get in their heads.
It's a long season. It's pretty obvious to me that after what we accomplished last year teams are testing us. They no longer see us as the plucky little enthusiastic underdogs. They see is as one of the better teams in the AL rubbing it on them with our antics when we beat them.
Teams are probing us for weakness. Will we get rattled by rough play? Will we back down and go into a funk? Today is the grand slam home run of possible answers to that imo. We didn't back down, we planted a real consequence in their minds, and showed the heart to come back and win the game.

Royals have 20 straight division games starting tonight. Need a 12-8 minimum with no worse than 4-3 against Detroit. You beat the division, you win the division.
