Pay attention numbnuts - we still have Hosmer for 7 years including this one. Even if we trade him with 2 years of arbitration left, we still had him for 5 years. We had Beltran on the major league team for 6 years. We had Damon for 5 years. We had Grienke for over 6 years. Your Mom's original statement was that we had these guys locked up for at least 5 years, to which you replied:

No you don't.... Seriously, might want to figure out some basic stuff.
Which is just completely blatantly stupid and wrong any way you slice it. Past history suggests we will have Hosmer and all our other prospects for 5 years min.

Look at Grienke's career: http://www.baseball-reference.com/pl...reinza01.shtml He's shown flashes of absolute brilliance, had one incredible year and a couple good ones. But he pretty much dropped out of baseball for 2 years because he wasn't motivated, and he's been anything but consistent. Maybe he'll find that in Mil, maybe how won't. But none of the super hardcore Royals fans I know, or the nerdy forums, were *that* upset at seeing him go all things considered. Yes we wish he was still on the team. But it's not like losing Cliff Lee or Verlander or something who you can pencil in for 17 wins every year.

flashes of brillance
= 3 straight years of ~5 WAR or better baseball
= 3 straight years of more WAR than the team is on pace for this year

lolz

royals fans are fun

I mean, I'm not at all suzzer. You just have a ton of misplaced faith in an organization that's content to run a 38m payroll.

suzzer you didn't want Greinke's 25-30M worth of production? why not?

I mean suzzer, you guys just traded Greinke for **** because of his 12.5m salary. If this dude is who you think he's going to be demanding 8-10m in arb later on, which is pushing almost 30% of your entire payroll.

LOOOL at beating the Grienke horse and ignoring the fact that I completely nailed you to the wall on the 5 year thing. The annoying thing about you Detroit trolls is you're too stupid to even know when you've been nailed. You just keep coming with mindless BS. Go back to your giant ****hole, I'm putting you all on ignore.

Yeah losing Grienke sucks. See I can admit when I might be wrong about something. Which you useless sacks of **** have never done once in all the worthless posts I've ever seen from you.

greear you're a punk and a classless human being. If anyone trolled any other thread as hard as you troll this one they'd be banned for life. But because no one gives a ****, and you know we can't reach out over the internet and beat the **** out of you like you deserve, you can get away with it. I have no idea what kind of person finds joy in the kind of **** that you pull, but you must be one miserable SOB IRL - for real. GFY

I'm really, really trying not to be a dick suzzer, but unless ownership is willing to expand the payroll back into the 60-70 range it's going to be very hard to compete on any sort of reasonable time period. It's just too hard to keep quality players around and bring up the minor league kids fast enough (not to mention the minor league kids often suck).

I realize you want to see nothing but roses for Hosmer as well, but he's MLE's from 2010 are OK (.245/.287/.481) and he had a .500 BABIP so far this year (eta: in the minors). Peripherals are far from converged, but he needs to watch the K rate. It'll be interesting to see how he does outside of Yankee stadium. I don't think he's the can't miss dude yet, but still is pretty good. Problem is you have to be an elite hitter to be a good first baseman in the AL.

Ikes, their payroll is down b/c they've been getting rid of dumb contracts like Guillen and are clearing room to bring up a ton of talent. They've spent quite a bit more before, and I'm certain the payroll will go up in the near future. When you have 6 rookies on the team, payroll is obviously going to be pretty low.

They've had two years out of the past 10 where they've spent money. That's not exactly hopeful.
