With closers it is very simple, you just compare the number of blown saves to either the league average (if you want to be nice to him) or to guys with his kind of status. The difference is your very exact value over the guys that you could or should have traded for! Actually it can't more precise than that and the good news is, that you guys don't even need a degree in math to understand it. Looking at comments like yours, it has to be assumed, that having one would have been helpful though.

About last night's game: After the Rays played a single into a triple in the 11th and then the **** hit the fan. I call that luck, because the decision to make a diving catch was ridiculous in that spot. You never ever allow extra-base hits in extra-innings. Always chose the safe option, because it takes three hits to score a run.

Also it has to be said that Nathan is a damn good closer with a 3-run lead, because he usually gives up only one or two runs. Maybe the definition of a SAVE is just as ridiculous as WAR and all the other stats that people came up with who weren't good enough to ever make it on a team

Btw, I have absolutely no idea how this fat clown Molina was able to battle Johnson for that long. Maybe this describes Johnson's problem: He can't change the eye-level.
