Looking good for next years draft. We should earn a top 5 pick as usual. Rams oline is in shambles they might only win like 6-7. Should get the QBOTF and a couple impact defenders.

Goff ain’t it. What’s the point of a multi year build when you’ve got a muppet at QB

Goff IS it. He's gonna lead the Lions to the promised land. IE a high enough draft pick to get a franchise QB. That was always his job. Everything is going right on schedule.

We have to get one of these 3 QBs. Ideally by sucking enough to just choose our guy. If not its about time to back up the truck with picks and move up.

Obv we need to fix the defense as well. That said we got all this offensive talent without anyone to command the ship.

Okudah looked like a star, Paschal looked like a future star, Hutch looked like a guy that can dominate with even a little bit of help on the DL and Joseph actually looked like he can play safety in the NFL. It seems like there are some defensive pieces in place

Walker can play - obviously we need him back from injury. Harris too

After that? not much - seems we need a true MLB that can patrol the entire field Anzalone not gonna cut it. DL? I'm starting to think Onwuzirike never gonna be impact player for us

Damn - forgot about Alim McNeill, lets count him as a future piece as well

Onwuzirke had back surgery, out for the season on IR FWIW. Nothing official about time tables but a lot of speculation that a 300 lb dude with back problems may just end up retiring. Will add to the illustrious list of cursed 2nd round DET picks.

Levi's future is not looking too bright. The knock on Brad Holmes is his willingness to draft/sign injured players. 3 of his top 5 draft picks have missed serious time due to injury. Paschal's back already so that's good. ACL tears have a decent track record of 8 to 12 month recovery times, so Jamo should be working his way back soon. But still, you're investing a lot of draft capital (and cap money with Chark) on players who had injury problems coming in and they are still lingering.

Goff is basically Scott Mitchell. He can lead an effective offense in a clean pocket, but as soon as it breaks down he is terrible, often running backwards and fumbling. Mitchell was good enough to get us to a few playoff berths, but ultimately just too much of a liability, and Goff's career arc feels similar. It's frustrating because if Goff had just a little more pocket presence he'd probably be top 10. But it's his inability to do anything under pressure is just too much of a liability in the NFL. I think I've seen enough at this point. The 45 point games aren't enough, you need consistency even when things break down. He's got to go.

I thought they actually had a decent game plan to try and take away the cowboys strength, by keeping the ball on the ground or going with quick designed passes. They moved the ball somewhat effectively. It was only at the end when they had to air it out did things fall apart.

I am glad to see the defensive re-works helped. They definitely had enough talent on defense to be better than they have been. Okudah is playing decent finally. He'll never live up to his draft spot but if he can at least be respectable back there it's one less hole to fill. The defense has the talent to at least be average a this point I think. If they can get a couple more good players, they could turn the corner in a big way.

I'd say for about 3 quarters the game went about as well as I could have expected. The Cowboys offense felt like a mirage going into the game, so I knew if the Lions defense could figure a few things out they might slow them down, and they did in a big way. Scoring points against an elite defense was going to be a problem, but they actually moved the ball fairly well, they just tripped over their own dick too many times. This could have been a road win vs. a very good team.

TJ Hockenson had an OK game but they also got Brock Wright involved in the passing game. Hock will be an interesting topic of discussion going forward. He's good but I'm not sure if he's worth paying a premium price for, especially when the dropoff between him and your other TE's doesn't seem huge. I'm thinking no on extending him unless it's for a very team friendly deal, but we'll see.

Next week is Dolphins at home. Dolphins are 3.5 point favorites and the O/U is 50.5, so they are predicting some scoring and Lions offensive bounce back. I like the Lions at +3.5 and the under. The Dolphins can be shut down.

Young or Stroud?

I like Stroud. Young is more athletic, but Stroud is plenty athletic himself, while also fitting the mold of more traditionally successful NFL QBs.

I don't know what the compensation would be but I would very likely be in favor of trying to trade Hock. He's a solid player but pretty far from elite. He is gonna get paid, though, and I do not want them to be the team that does it. When you can get guys in the Hayden Hurst, Gerald Everett, Austin Hooper tier for half the price of what it's gonna cost for Hock I think its a no brainer.

I'd bring Hock back for the right price, I'm just not sure what that price is. I know it's not the 15 mil/year that guys like Kittle and Kelce get. 9 mil? 12 mil? Somewhere in there? His 5th year option will be for 9.5 mil. They drafted James Mitchell but so far he's been TE3 behind Brock Wright, who has played decent. Maybe between those 2 they can get back most of Hock's production for a fraction of the cost.

Yup, nothing against Hock but he's not regularly changing games the way Kelce and Andrews do. Seems like it would cost 400% above replacement level to get 250% of replacement level production.

The real question is what to do with my "Hockamania" t-shirt if they trade him?

I assume the answer is run into a room and tear it off your chest, then fling the tatters to some adoring family/friends; put another on and go to another room and repeat, until you're out of shirts.

I'm willing to give this crew another year to see if they can start winning games but holy **** is this bad. This is starting to feel a lot like the 08 lions.

yeah, Campbell and Co. are really starting to look like they're in over their heads. I'll say more often then not they've come in with a solid plan on O (the D is just flat out terrible) but when adjustments are made they simply get out coached.

I think a team will over pay him based on his draft stock. Hes shown enough to entice someone. To be fair a chance of scenery could potentially lead to him stepping his game up to that next level. That said even if he breaks out on another team that doesnt mean he would of as a Lion.

As far as what type of contract is he going to get look at these recent TEs that changed teams or resigned. I would say Hock will be in that Njoku range another talented guy who seemed to underachieve.

Njoku-13.7mill per
H.Henry 12.5mill per
J.Smith 12.5millE
Engram just got 9+mill per and he was coming off some bad football and cant block

Were looking good for pick one. Rams have the looks of a 500 team to me. Were going to be set up real nice for next season.

I'm struggling with this because the counterfactual is that the coaching is actually impressive to get this **** team to come out and get up by 14, but they don't have the talent to keep up once the other team makes the proper adjustments.

I think on offense at least the problem isn't necessarily coaching. Jared Goff has limitations, so we're rarely going to get a perfect performance. For the most part this offense only had 2 bad drives all day. The problem is that with this defense they need to pitch a perfect game every time out and Jared Goff just isn't that guy.

The defense I still feel like this scheme is problematic. There's too much blitzing. Too much poor containment. I think with a guy like Tua, whose very good at reading the field and getting the ball out quickly (a trait you'll probably find 3 year old posts of mine as reason for the Lions to draft him at #3) you have to be able to get to him with your front 4. They rarely tried. Also WTF I saw way too much of Hutchinson dropping back into coverage. Come on with this ****. His strength is as a stand up pass rusher. He should be doing that on at least 90% of his snaps. Sure throw in the occasional stunt or different look just to keep them guessing, but this was frustrating. And you're going up against Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. They are two of the best in the game. You are going to have to put safeties over top of both these guys. They're going to get their share of yards, but they made it too easy for them today. Too many wide open looks.

There are 15 teams with 3 or fewer wins currently. It would be in-line with tradition for the Lions to win a few late games with no playoff implications and end up picking like 7th or 9th or 11th instead of 1st.

That’s okay, the best available tight end will still be there at 7, 9 or 11.

Never wishing for an injury to anyone, but the Rams are a Stafford or Kupp injury away from a top 5 draft pick.

2nd rounder for Hock seems good for the Hock we've seen. As long as he doesn't turn into Kittle I'll be happy.

Nice that they will have a couple later picks to shore up the D after they draft Sam LaPorta in the 1st

Its a good trade. As was just discussed recently Hock was going to be due a fairly big pay raise. He still had pretty good value on the market.

I will say I think Minnesota is a great spot for him. I wont be shocked if he finally breaks out into that probowl TE level there. That said I'm not going to complain because he sure as hell wasnt ever gonna be that for us.
