Well that was fast. Im sure you've heard the news about Collins being on the trading block. I will give Campbell some credit for recognizing that now is not the time to keep giving snaps to aging players who aren't even that good when you've got potential building blocks on the bench.

Just dropping in to celebrate our Lions fan Sunday getting kicked in the dick party.

66 yard FG when there was clearly a delay of game. Worst part is; I don't even feel pain anymore, just tequila pulsing thru my brain.

Pretty much. You're giving the ball back to a team with Lamar Jackson and Justin Tucker. You deserve that ending. Go for 7 there and make them put it in the end zone.

Not even mad tho. The boys played their asses of today. That was one of the best defensive efforts I've seen in a long time. Those are the types of games we have to play to convince me this team is actually building something.

When JT lined up for the 66 yarder I knew I would be happy no matter what since either way I would be watching one hell of a game. It also didn't hurt that my bets today were on Lions +8 and Ravens ML

And while the officiating talk may be about the missed delay of game, as a fan that backwards flea flicker that got ruled an incomplete should be a fumble. I guess by technicality it's an incomplete but if the player is clearly tossing it backwards and gets hit, I guess they get away with calling it inc?

Good loss their is some awful football teams this season to compete with for draft position. We arent Jets/Jags level of bad but we will be in a tight race with the Giants,Texans,Falcons, and Colts for the next spots.

As long as we can get a QB I'm not too concerned with where we pick, but definitely top 5 would be nice. I do want to see the defense, especially the young guys, show some promise. And boy did they ever on Sunday. And they still lost, which I'm also fine with strictly for draft position.

Goff does need to go sooner rather than later though. Taking some of the sacks he did was inexcusable. I know he's not an athlete but when a guy comes off the edge even Grandpa Brady can avoid him long enough to throw it away. Goff just turtled up. And it's not like the pocket collapsed on him, he had room to move.

what QB do you expect them to take? Imo there isn't one yet that's worthy of drafting as a top 5.

regardless of if they do or don't take one I'm pretty convinced that this front office doesn't see Goff as such a major problem and he'll be in Detroit and starting at least next year simply because he would be a 30+ million dead cap hit for 2022. that drops to 10 million in 2023 and only 5 million the year after.

in an attempt to avoid an Okudah situation all over again where we just miss out on the blue chip's my dream scenario for them is to sit this QB class out and take Kayvon Thibodeoux.

I'm liking Sam Howell out of UNC. Goff will be on the roster next year based on cap situation alone, but that doesn't mean he's not going to have some competition for QB1 if he keeps shitting the bed like he has been.

I think I'm seeing what the Rams were seeing with Goff. This is a bit of a generalization, but if you break up the starting caliber QB's into 3 tiers, I think it looks something like this:

Tier1 Elite QB's - maybe 5 to 7 of these in the NFL, and can win a SB on an otherwise above average to average team.

Tier 2 Middling QB's - Maybe the middle 7 to 20 or so. These are guys who are good enough to take a good team to the SB.

Tier 3 Bottom QB's - These guys become a liability and can hold back an otherwise great team. I think this is where Goff is right now honestly. He's just going to make dumb mistakes at a rate much higher than other QBs will, he doesn't have the arm talent to make as many throws, and he locks in on his first read too often and misses open guys. The only thing really good about him is his accuracy in a clean pocket, but that's nothing special at the NFL level.

The Rams knew they were a good football team, and just needed a better QB to consistently compete. Stafford is in the top of that second tier. His accuracy isn't as consistent as the elites. He can be slow to go through his progressions at times, and makes some occasional ill advised throws. But he's definitely good enough to win on a good team.

I don't know much when it comes to scouting college QB's, but at some point you have to try something new vs. trotting out the guy who is always a liability no matter how much you build around him. You can't ask this team to just keep losing until they land a superstar at #1 overall. At some point they will have to make a move for a QB one way or another, either in the draft or with a blockbuster move like what LA did.

Good thing we didn't pick a generational QB when we picked 3rd. That would have sucked.

Lol Lions. Worst game since probably that game in 2015 where Martha fired the whole front office the next day.

On the final punt the guy was line up like a yard offsides, I'm screwing at my tv the whole time, and the bears bail them out with a to. Then he does it again and sure enough, end of game.

One nice thing

Our coach isn't pussy punting from the OPP 43

So that's refreshing

This all comes down to Goff. He is too inaccurate. This is why the rams traded him and a dozen 1st to get stafford. Who we all thought was too inaccurate.

If you swap fields and Goff we win. It's that simple.

The people who are saying that Campbell was too aggressive are the same people who would tell you that you should have stood on your hard 16 vs a dealer 10 after the dealer goes on to bust.

I dont want a QB. None of them currently excite me. Goff sucks too but we have so many holes cant fill them all.

The guy I want is Kayvon Thibodeaux. Thats a lock stud pass rusher.

Yeah, I'd be OK with them building a badass team around Goff then going out & getting a QB. Basically exactly what the Rams did.

There's basically 3 ways to land a good QB in the NFL.
1. Suck bad enough that you pick #1 overall and get as close to a lock as you can at rookie QB.
2. Be good enough to be an attractive FA or trade destination for a good QB looking to desert a sinking ship.
3. Hit a homerun on a first round but not #1 overall QB, and be willing to pull a trade for a guy.

Of course it would be lol Lions to pick #1 overall in a year there's not a clear QB for that spot and they need one. We can be the worst team this season and I'm not worried, but if they are still godawful next year then it's a sign the rebuild isn't working. So hopefully options 2 or 3 are in their future, maybe in 2023 when the rebuild is turning the corner.

The only comfort this team provides is an occasional ability to cover the spread. That and the fact the defense is at least playing with some level of competence since getting rid of Matty P's awful scheme and underperforming LB's in Tavai and Collins.

But Goff is bad. It took defenses all of about 3 weeks to figure out if you just pack your coverage at the LOS + 10 yards you can take away all his options. Those Deandre Swift checkdowns in the flat that were going for 8+ a few weeks ago are now 2 to 3 yard gains. He threw one deep ball the whole game, and of course it was underthrown into double coverage that had a much better chance of being an INT than a completion. Unfortunately I think they are going to need to force more throws down field, and Cephus, the only receiver who seems to show some contested catch ability, looks to possibly be done for the year. Hopefully Tyrell Williams is due to come off IR soon. Although lingering concussions are pretty bad. Most guys seem to come out of protocol after about 2 to 3 weeks. When it starts going on longer than that, they have a way of becoming a Javid Best type scenario. Hopefully not. We are already scraping the bottom of the barrel for receiver talent.

They don't feel like an 0-17 team. Although our 0-16 team had a way of keeping games close like this, so who knows.

a lot of lions fans I see on social media are being very very results oriented. they put themselves into 90%+ win percentage against both Baltimore and Minny with literally one play left on the clock. this team is incredibly close to being 2-3 right now and is clearly better than about 4-5 teams.

with that said I honestly don't really care how they end this year record wise, just hope to develop a bunch of the puppies and find out whos in the plans going forward. imo they're doing okay-ish there. also as heartbreaking as it's been so far, and as painful as it is to see Goff never attempt a pass more than 5 yards down field, I do actually enjoy rooting for and watching this team play. just my 2 cents.

edit: was also super cool seeing Amani and Justin Jefferson jawing early in the third, Jefferson call him out to man up, and zone stuff aside the staff let Amani do it for virtually the rest of the game and he almost completely shut Jefferson down the second half. hopefully that'll be a big confidence boost for him and the staff going forward.
