Sounds like the Fins are targeting Sewell. They just traded an OT. I knew they would screw us being one pick ahead.

Rumor going around is the Lions tried to move up to 4 to get Chase and are highly interested in a WR this draft. I really want to believe in Devonta Smith. I know he's a little guy, and the risk is he gets split in half by a safety, but his speed and route running are phenomenal.

My concern with Justin Fields is that his ceiling is Cam Newton. Athletic with a good arm but can't read the full field and locks in on his preferred target early and often. I agree he has a higher floor than Lance right now, but if I'm picking a top 10 QB I want a guy with HoF potential and I don't see it from Fields at this point.

ironic because I feel like the absolute tip top of the roof for Trey Lance is becoming a Cam Newton clone (nothing wrong with that). Fields is just a much much better thrower of the football. I'm 100% sincere here, Lance is not good accuracy wise.

I think Fields could be the next Watson or Prescott. Coming into the season he was considered an automatic two pick and a number 1 pick in most drafts type QB. I think hes getting knocked for the bad game vs Alabama where he was banged up and some narratives. Also this is just a great QB class with the best QB prospect since Luck and some other good ones on the board.

Fields seems to be getting a ton of narratives against him during the predraft process. Their was the "last man in first man out" narrative which is debunked by the fact the guy was one of the biggest voices in wanting to play this season. He could of just sat out and been a 2 pick no questions asked. Then the first read only narrative which first off the idea is to throw to the first read if their open, which as we know OSU WRS are open because their damn good. That said PFF graded Fields as the best passer on throws PAST the first read since 2019.

If hes there and all the top tier skill position guys are gone(Sewell,Chase,Pitts) I'd love to grab him and I'd take him even over Pitts. We could grab him and hope Goff has a good season and flip Goff for more picks. Also if we don't take him we will be locked in on a QB next season who hasnt been as heralded as Fields has over the past couple seasons.

Fields is a leverage play because young QB value doesn't really depreciate. you take him and if Goff doesn't work you have a top tier prospect in the wings. if Goff does work, you have a top tier prospect in the wings to trade

Trey Lance = obv bust to me. from the lolyoutubes I've watched dude can't hit the broad side of a barn. a lot of times he's just chucking the ball out there to nobody in particular. he's like a less accurate Josh Allen, or a less athletic Terrell Pryor throwing the ball, either way he's no bueno IMO

so, yeah, I say Chase, Sewell, then Fields would be my ideal picks in order at 7 with a trade down to a QB hungry team being equally fine.

one thing I'm pretty excited about is that this draft is supposedly very deep at a lot of positions Detroit is lacking talent. should be a really good early indicator at if Holmes is as sharp as I'm hoping he is.

LFG, boys!

For their reason. Getting more picks > WR at 7

The Ringer mock had us trading back with the Chargers and them taking Sewell. Was like pick 13 77 and next years 2nd. Then the next pick was the Pats trading up 15 96 and next years first. If thats the spot were in I think I'd prefer keeping Sewell over either deal but man its really close. I think I prefer the Pats deal then the Chargers as getting that extra 1st would be better I think. It would be pretty cool coming into next season with three first rounders though wouldnt it?

If we could trade back and land Parsons who would be there with both picks if their mock was correct I'd be thrilled. I'd also be good with Slater,Smith,or Waddle. They had us taking Paye who I know I wouldnt want.

I agree with you

If Sewell is there you take him
If there's a QB you love take him

If all 4 QB and Sewell go 1-6 and you have pitts or chase sitting there, please trade back. Someone will want one of those guys

We have so many holes I'd rather get 2.5 starters than one pro bowl WR

Here's my prediction for how the draft plays out:

1. Lawrence - duh
2. Wilson - duh
3. Jones - lol 49ers
4. Pitts - ATL going for it
5. Chase - Cincy pairs him back with Burrows
6. Sewell - Miami beefs up their O-Line.

7. With the seventh pick in the NFL draft, the Detroit Lions select Jaylen Waddle, wide receiver from Alabama. They want a receiver, Pitts and Chase are going to be gone, but Waddle has a lot of the skills they want to pair with Goff.

Heading to my draft/beer party to have my share of Chick-Fil-A nuggets and Treehouse King Julius. I'm the guy in the Sanders jersey so wave or give me the finger if you see me.

For the first time in a few years I have no idea who or even what position they're about to draft.

What a awesome pick at 7. I honestly was worried they would troll us with another player. Getting a top tier OT prospect at 7 is so rare.

The o line is locked down now. Love it. Now go defense all the way.

They likely are forced to go WR in the 2nd. Defense isnt going to come till next season. We have to many holes.

Their is some solid defensive players on the board. Maybe we go defense round 2 and grab the WR in round 3. I just can't imagine us not going a WR in the next two rounds with what we have currently in house.

It looks like NFL GMs agreed with you and he slipped out of the first round. I suspect it's mostly a size thing, as he's sort of a tweener and not a natural fit in a traditional NFL defense. I'm a believer that with his athleticism they could find a place for him. Maybe he makes it 9 more picks and Detroit gets a shot at him? I'd be happy with that.

Yeah, the rage for a while was safety-sized fast linebackers, but I think offenses have figured out how to take advantage of that if you go too far. Owusu-Koramoah is the same size as Peppers, just maybe a bit taller, so he'd be very light for a LB.

I haven't paid much attention to the scheme that they plan to run on defense so I can't really comment on how Owusu-Koramoah would fit, but he's talented enough that I would have zero problem if they grabbed him as a best player available in the 2nd and figured it out later.

If a guy is there that they like with a lot of upside, they'll take him. Otherwise it'll be a year of picking up other teams' discards. Of all the positions on offense I'd probably be least worried about running out retreads at WR (and/or RB).

Given that the Lions are going to suck this year it's hardly worth worrying about, they just need to hit on more draft picks than they usually do to start building up some capital.

Good thing he went to the Bears then, they'll develop him into the next Mitchell Trubisky.

Our defense has always sucked vs running qbs and unless they get a lot faster soon they are still going to suck against them.

this article was helpful for the above for me. there's some cool visuals to a get better understanding of the alignment's but it's basically the Rams front which was a hybrid with 3 down lineman and depending on down and distance weather its 4lb/4db, 3lb/5db, etc

https://www.prideofdetroit.com/2021/...l-draft-update

gotta say, there's still a lot of really good football prospects on the board. would really love for them to wheel & deal for some extra ammo and just throw a lot of darts here on day 2. not get crazy putting all the eggs in one basket but if they can move around somehow, there's just soo many guys I think would really help this team.

They do have the rams future 1st rounders they could use if they want to go ham in this years draft. They are eating $41 million in dead cap this year, most in the NFL. I liked the strategy, they shed a lot of bad contracts all at once. There's a couple ways you could do this rebuild.

1. Go really young now, acquire more picks in this draft, and build a good core for your rebuild. Take advantage of your sudden cap windfall, go ham in 2022 free agency to make a run in 2022.
2. Phone in this next season, maybe go big on a QB in 2022 trading up if you have to, and then start signing more top tier FA's in 2023.

and that's the delicate balancing act isn't it? in actuality this will still probably be a pretty lousy team next year. they really are set up nicely to be in good position for 2022 onwards. as a fan I admittedly get tunnel vision of the here and now, but it really is probably best to move somewhat slow this year and strike in future years when the picture of what they need to do at the QB position is clearer.

as of today Holmes has done nothing for me to not trust his plan so I guess just sit back and enjoy it unfolding, but man, can't help but get excited about some of these names in Honolulu Blue
