Love the one year deal for Beltre at 9 Mil.

They are also apparently talking to the Mets about a straight up Castillo for Lowell swap. I can see that helping the Mets (Get O-Dog for 2B and put Lowell in a platoon at 1B and have him cover some for Wright) but what in the world will the Sox do with Castillo?

Damn. Looks like Beltre may have turned down as much as 27 Million extra. He must be banking on a huge year next year.

historically beltre has one of the greatest 3B season of all time 50% of the time he is in a contract year

or this is a boras leak to make it look like taking a one year deal was actually a brilliant long run strategy. wouldn't be the first time. and it might actually end up being true, but that doesn't mean it was his strategy all along.

it's also possible he turned it down early on trying to do better and then found out that offer wasn't on the table anymore.

The Sox are trading Casey Kotchman to the Mariners for a minor leaguer.

Did the Sox ever look into signing Troy Glaus? The Braves just signed him to a one-year, $1.75 million deal.

Was Glaus' injury so serious that he isn't expected to be productive ever again?

Looks like it might be Bill Hall, a prospect and some cash.

2B - Pedroia, 10.6 (1346.2 inn.)
SS - Green/Gonzalez, 8.3/18.3 (644.1/361 inn.)

2010 Boston Starters

1B - Youkilis, 15.2 (647 inn.)
2B - Pedroia, 10.6 (1346.2 inn.)
SS - Scutaro, 1.0 (1252.2 inn.)
3B - Beltre, 21.0 (988.1 inn.)
LF - Ellsbury*, 21.8 (490.1 inn.)
CF - Cameron, 10.3 (1267.2 inn.)
RF - Drew, 15.7 (1083.1 inn.)

*I used Ellsbury's career LF UZR/150 because it's drastically different from his career CF (-10.6, 1956.1) and had a decent sample size. I would have used career UZR for everyone, but that doesn't account for age and I didn't want to bother looking them all up individually.
Elsbury to left and Cameron taking over center is official.

ESPN.com- Epstein: 'Best way to go for now'

"Jacoby Ellsbury is a very good center fielder who is going to be a great center fielder,'' Epstein said in confirming remarks Francona made to the Providence Journal. "It doesn't have anything to do with how he plays center field. We're happy with his center field defense.

"It's more to do with Cameron's experience, and Ellsbury's ability to play a dynamic left field. This is not necessarily a permanent arrangement, or a long-term arrangement. But we think Cameron is still an elite center fielder ... and that's the best way to go for now.''

You guys think we will make it a priority to keep V-Mart around after this year? Or will we let him walk after 2010?

Unless there is a plan b for a good starting catcher, they have no choice but to try and resign him.
