3/$39 for Victorino. Pretty awful imo. Way to dump a bunch of bad contracts last season to repeat the same exact mistakes. This team is frustrating me.

$13 million per year doesn't buy much anymore.

I'm not thrilled with the signing, but at the same time, it's 3 years. I didn't expect them to contend next year anyways. It seems like they've got some money to spend, so they're splashing around a bit with decentish players so that they don't bottom out and alienate their fanbase. This isn't the same situation as 2 years ago.

Looks like Napoli might be damaged goods. I wasn't thrilled with the signing anyway and wouldn't mind if it got voided. The Sox sure have screwed this thing up the last few years.

20/20 hindsght, but all they had to do was resign Adrian Beltre after his terrific 2010 season, keep Youk at first (maybe he doesn't break down playing a less demanding position). Then you don't have to ship all the prospects to SD for Agon. Now they have neither him or the prospects and are scrambling to find a power hitting first baseman.

Rumor going around that since it looks like Hamilton may be had for 3 years they are trying to void the Napoli contract in order to go after Hamilton on a short deal. Not sure if they guy on the radio just totally made that up or if he had any kind of legit sources.

I don't think the Napoli contract would stop them from going 80mm over 3 years to Hamilton.

The Dempster signing makes no sense to me whatsoever. Can somebody explain why it's happening?

Gotta think the Red Sox believe they have talent in the minors but that they wont be ready for 2-3 years. It seems their plan this off-season is to just sign veterans to 2-3 year deals to hopefully/possibly compete for a wildcard spot while bridging the gap until the prospects are ready.

This has to be it. If this isn't it, then the awesome salary dump to LA was just a fluke.

I don't know what other SP you have. Not sure on current bullpen situation. If your team plays to their career averages (not horribly unlikely) you could pretty easily compete for a WC spot. I mean the O's had a much worse lineup last year and were a game away from winning the division.

Not sure what you guys are all complaining about. You aren't stacked or anything, but certainly have enough to be competitive.

Oh, this is nothing! You should read the Patriots thread! We win by 40 pts every week, and words like "horrible" are still being tossed around ITT.

My favorite sentence in the history of the internet was posted in last year's Pats thread: "Belichick needs to held accountable." I still can't even TYPE IT with a straight face, let alone SAY it. "OK, BB, you've only been to five SBs in eleven years--account for yourself!"

I have hopes that Doubrant will be more consistent this year. I think his troubles from last year stemmed from him just getting tired mid-season. For a period he was the only bright spot on the rotation.

All in all im satisfied with how the Red Sox are operating this off-season. Not overly thrilled about the additions to the team, but it seems like they have a plan to just give out 2-3 year deals and they are sticking to it.

Napoli wanted 4 years and the Sox didnt budge and stayed at 3, I think Dempster wanted 3 and the Sox stayed at 2. I think they might have overpaid a bit in terms of annual $'s but aslong as they stay disciplined wrt years im happy.

Ideally a situation will arise where their current prospects are with the major league team and fulfilling their potential and these short team deals will be finishing allowing them to make a few splashes to fill some gaps in a team that should be in serious contention. That is likely wishful thinking though.

A bunch of Bay State 2+2'ers (the ones sweating my weight loss threads in OOT and H&F) are getting together in downtown Boston this weekend, if anyone's interested.

Saus, 33 Union St (near Faneuil Hall), Saturday 12/22/12, 8 PM.

Come meet ME!

Hello all,

I have shares of a season ticket package available.

The tickets are Row 12, seats 22 & 23 of Section 36. They are great baseball seats and even a blog about the section in Fenway: http://section-36.blogspot.com/

They are in my name but cannot be transfered so I run it.

There are 81 games in Fenway, we break up the tickets in 10 shares so 8 games per share, two tickets per game. The lone extra game gets randomly given to one of the share holders.

We have a season ticket draft, snake-style, 1-10 and then 10-1, repeat. We use Random.org to determine the order of the draft. There are nine home games vs the Yankees and with the home opener you are guaranteed to get one premium game at least.

Playoff tickets will be offered in August per the Red Sox. They sell as if the Red Sox were home always. We split this cost 10-ways and that's $155/share. You will get a draft place for the playoff, one draft place per share. If your playoff money is not used, you will get credited as deposit for next season.

Please PM me and I'll give the pricing and details.

Thanks,
Joe

Should we be excited about Rubby De La Rosa?

http://espn.go.com/boston/mlb/story/...pedro-martinez

Quote:
De La Rosa says matter-of-factly, he has mastered the (Pedro) Martinez changeup. If true, given that he also has thrown a fastball clocked at 100 mph even after Tommy John surgery, De La Rosa might stir some of the excitement his idol did.
