These are the managerial decisions I cannot stand, yet he instantly gets positive reenforcement because we get the runners in and eventually win the game.
God, Joe's rant about this was sooo tilting. He was going on and on about how he disagreed with the old baseball adage of "play to win on road and tie at home", saying that bunting was good because now with 2nd and 3rd, a single could tie it whereas if you let him hit, the only way to win was to hit a HR.

What. The. ****. There were zero outs, Joe. Pretty sure a HR is not the only way to win. Then it "worked" and we won and Joe gets to be all smug in the postgame like "SEEEEEE that's why I hate the play to win strategy....because you have to tie it before you win it" (%*%#(^&&(W%&

That HR yesterday sealed it for me, Gattis is absolutely the real deal. That swing was Bondsian. Honestly only concern I have with him is he seems too good to be true which had meant PED use in recent history (though lots of players probably still use so whatevs).

I'll believe it when they face some real pitching.

What does everyone think we do when Mac is back? Gattis is too good not to play a few times a week at least.

He's at least the 2nd catcher so he's playing every 5th game. One game a week at a corner outfield spot. Top pinch hitter. Can fill in at 3rd or 1st on a double switch.

Just remembered that by around the All-Star Break the front 4 of the rotation is going to be our best pitcher from last season (198 ERA+?!), the guy who just led the Braves to wins in 23 straight starts, the guy currently working on a 23 1/3 inning streak of 0 runs (earned+unearned), and Tim Hudson.

The top of the lineup will be the Uptons, Heyward, Freddy and a McCann/Gattis combo.

Good luck National League.

It'll be way tougher to find AB's for Gattis than you think. He certainly won't be getting a start a week in LF unless someone is injured. Unlikely he gets every start when Mac's not catching either. Laird will get some starts. You'd never want Gattis at 1st late in a game, either, so he won't be entering games as part of a double-switch. He also doesn't play 3B at all. I could see him getting a few starts at 1B or C whenever we face a tough lefty.

He'd be the primary PHer, though, and would probably get 5 AB's a week or so doing that.

Not the worst problem to have, but it will be tough to get him AB's at the major league level.

Braves lead the majors in run differential by a lot (+39, St. Louis is 2nd at +27) and have the least runs allowed (23, 2nd is 32).

btw, the gun wasn't off with Kimbrel yesterday. FB at 93.6 mph according to pitchfx...down almost 3 mph from his other appearances this season..and by far the slowest of the last 2 seasons. He did have similar dips in 2011 but nothing even close to this significant in 2012.

Probably just an aberration but something to keep an eye on.

Ya it had/has me slightly concerned, but he had just pitched ~17 hours prior.

I wonder if he's ever pitched that soon after pitching? Could be that. Maybe be didn't get much sleep the night before. Who knows. Hopefully his velocity is where it should be next time be pitches.
