Part of me wants to wait to see what CAC has to say about JJ hitting 8th (like I'm sure TDome is doing) but I just can't see how it's a good idea. They said the reason is to have an opportunity to have one more (speedy) baserunner by the time Freeman, Uggla and Heyward come up, but if that's the goal, why not just shift them down one and bat George 2nd?

But then, near the end of the game, you are replacing your pitcher anyway, so the pinch hitter is probably better than your normal 8th place hitter.

I don't know, if it was really that good, then I think more teams would do it.

Depending on the rest of the lineup, it can be a net gain to swap the 8th hitter with the pitcher. I think in all but the most tailor made situations, the difference is negligible either way.

There is a lot of good research on this topic, by the way, ever since LaRussa started doing it 4 years ago.

Delgado promoted to AAA. Wonder what some of the all-time great minor league staffs are. Teheran, Minor, Delgado and Vizcaino together on one minor league team is pretty sick, lol.
