The NL East is pretty beastly this year.

NL East vs NL Central: 82-55 .599
NL East vs NL West: 60-54 .526

Every NL East team has a winning record against the NL Central, and against the NL West Washington is 12-12 and Florida is 10-12 (the others have a winning record).

The fact that 11 of our last 17 series are against the NL East is a pretty substantial disadvantage.

Now go get a RH reliever that is better than Proctor.

I like it. Schafer is worthless IMO but admittedly I don't know much about the 3 prospects other than they didn't get one of the "big 4" pitchers. Bourn will slide in nicely at leadoff in CF. .360 OBP, sick speed that ATL doesn't have, great fielder...

I'm admittedly not that knowledgeable when it comes to trades and stuff, but this seems like complete rapeage on our part. We give up Schafer, and 3 prospects that aren't in the top 50, and get Bourn and some cash for this years salary?

This was a good deal. Clemens and Oberholtzer have SOME potential, but not giving away any of our top 4 pitching prospects and acquiring the best (or second best if you're a BJ Upton guy) player we could have acquired to improve our team is pretty great. This was an ideal acquisition.

We paid way less than Philly paid to acquire Pence and we got a better player for our team (and likely overall).

Bourn arb-eligible in 2012, doesn't hit free agency til '13. Mcclouth has a 10M team option for '12 that won't be picked up. So at the very least we're looking to have Bourn for '12 and he won't be just a 2 month rental.

Yes I am Nostredumbass. I like this trade. Nobody has to shuffle positions and now we have a legitimate leadoff hitter and basestealer. Plus we didnt have to trade any of the "Big 4".

Fact that we never have to see Schafer horribly misused on this team again is just a bonus. Believe Oberholtzer is the centerpiece for the Astros. He is a talented pitcher, but he is buried as far as getting a chance here. Soooooooo ****ing glad the Pence deal didn't work out for us. Seems would have given up alot more, and he doesn't even have a natural fit on our team.

Exactly when did this trade happen? No chance of Bourne making the 1:30 pm game today?

Now let's get Carlos Quentin and put him in LF, move Prado to SS when Chipper is healthy, and win world series.

Holy ****ing **** this will even force Freddi to not play Jordan in the leadoff spot anymore, and plug our biggest leak!

Wren is managing the team from the front office, and I love it!

Now all he needs to do is add a quality RH to the bullpen and force Proctor out, (Arodys Vizcaino maybe!?) then Freddi won't have many options for bad decisions to make.

That would be sick. Take 2 of the big 4 to get him at this point. He's making just over 5mm so it's not a huge contract to rent. Chipper would have to retire before we could even consider resigning Quentin.

Good breakdown here by Keith Law on the trade. He loves it for the Braves. It's ESPN insider...

God, I just made the mistake at checking up on Yunel's stats this year.

Yunel: .305/.383/.440
Gonzo:.231/.263/.338

Gonzalez has made almost 2 entire games worth of extra outs compared to Yunel.

But nobody in the organization thinks it was a mistake, even the players. Clubhouse harmony is more important than stat robots want to acknowledge.

Even if you concede that he shouldn't be on the team, it was a pretty clear case of selling low on Yunel and buying high on Gonzalez.

Yes, it was.

What really sucks about the trade is Yunel forced it by being a disturbance. I'd rather have his numbers.

Mentioned it before, but the one positive to the otherwise disastrous Yunel trade is that the SS prospect we got back has developed as well we could have possibly hoped for. Currently our 2nd best position prospect. Might end up getting 7.5 seasons of very cheap to relatively cheap SS production in exchange.

The other prospect we got, Tim Collins, also ended up being a decent trade piece (Farnsworth/Ankiel trade, they weren't great for us, but we "needed" them and were going to have to give up a decent prospect to get them).
