New York Times seeks to demonize "gambling" and rein in DFS Madness New York Times seeks to demonize "gambling" and rein in DFS Madness

A New York Times Editorial today decries DFS as a wedge for legalized sports betting and calls for it to be reined in.

The editorial seems pulled directly from an old copy of "Reefer Madness":

Rein In Online Fantasy Sports Gambling

By THE EDITORIAL BOARD OCT. 5, 2015

"...

What is worrisome is that some lawmakers, like Representative Frank Pallone Jr., Democrat of New Jersey, are using the growth of fantasy sports to push Congress to let states legalize conventional gambling in sports. Late last year, the commissioner of the N.B.A., Adam Silver, called for legalizing sports betting.

The allure of profits from gambling clouds otherwise rational minds. Giving people more ways to bet on the outcomes of sports is sure to threaten the integrity of sports and create more gambling addicts, especially among young people who are already more likely to engage in risky behaviors."

Remember, this editorial is not something written by the Family Research Council, it is the New York Times position. The bottom line however is familiar to poker players outside NJ, NV, and Del.

In fairness it is crap that DFS is allowed and poker isn't. Lobbying ftw.

1) Link doesn't seem to work;

2) How about a statement from -someone- on the apparent demise of Breakout Gaming, David?

The insider-type trading in Fantasy Sports where execs/employees can see everyone's picks and copy the picks of regular winners or use the public's picks to fashion a team that is +EV doesn't help.

*That DraftKings employee was very "lucky" to recently win $350K playing on FanDuel, wasn't he?

Most don't think it was luck:

"One industry insider who wished to remain anonymous told LSR that “a significant number of the whales at the top DFS sites are employees – often executives – of other sites.”

This is the kind of dirty stuff that could potentially kill DFS long term. "Lucky" my ass.

In short, derail or not...

Fkn Rickie Weeks!

I've always viewed DFS as a bunch of parlayed prop bets.
