Grunching, I joined a friend's keeper league because they needed a 10th player. I dont follow baseball too closely but am not completely in the dark.

It's a brand new league, but we're allowed to keep 2 players for next year. Pretty sure theres around 16 categories, 8 batting and 8 pitching. I've drawn the first pick. Is Trout the best choice to make for a keeper league?

Anyone have any Google docs of recent keeper drafts that I could use so I don't get laughed out of the league ?

Trouts the easy #1 pick in any draft imo

We started a $50 keeper league that has a thread in this forum and I think the draft was posted too

But which 16 categories also makes a big difference

Trout isn't a clear #1 pick over Miggy depending on the 8 hitting categories. Trout's value over Miggy in the standard 5 category league lies in all the SB he gets you. But once you start to add categories that Miggy performs better in generally (AVG, SLG, OPS, K) - the line becomes thinner between the two.

BUT given that it's a keeper league - yeah I'd take Trout.

The problem is that even one of the bums is going to cost me a minimum of $1 for 2 yrs. Doesnt sound like much, but not trivial when most teams including mine have only $2-$5 of cap room remaining of the $120 total to maneuver with over the rest of the season.

If i want someone better I'd have to trade for the player.
Would you be comfortable as Cody Asche as your long term starting 3B in a 20 team league? I honestly know almost nothing about him.

Anyone on the FA market who may get 3b eligibility?

In ESPN Waivers, does the player go to the highest bidder regardless of seed or the lower seed gets him if he put a claim

Ah i see. So Izturis would cost you the equivalent of a newly named closer in a FAAB league, plus you're saddled with the $1 next year? not good. I hate taking zeros but the news on Beltre sounds good, hell he might be back before the ink is dry on any deal you make to cover him.

As far as Asche goes I don't know much either, except I think the Philly FO is higher long term on the kid (whos name eludes me) he beat out in the spring. I'd do some digging before pulling the trigger there.

Also, Even if Beltre hits the DL it sounds like it would be for the minimum at this point. I'd rather take 12 more days of zeros than blow my cash on one of those guys.

Valverde and KROD both looked good tonight. tickticktick tho

Beltre isn't supposed to be out on DL. Not as severe as they thought.

pick one to drop (trade?) when victorino returns from the DL, dont wanna have 2 bench slots taken up by bats:

Gyorko
Miller
Calhoun
Swisher

Thinking Swisher is the right call here but his dual eligibility may make him more attractive off the bench than the other guys

Thoughts on this deal?

I have Yordano Ventura in a keeper league and I'm being offered Oscar Tavares and Archie Bradley.

Now in order to do this I would need to drop Kris Bryant and Carlos Correa from my NA slots and put Tavares and Bradley in.

Worth it?

Thanks for the feedback guys.
Ya im fortunate that Beltre appears to have a faded a serious injury.

ended up bidding on Solarte anyway so unless somebody upbids me. ill at least be able to play himn for a few days and then stash him on my MiLB roster as insurance when Beltre is ready to go.

fwiw, this wasnt quite like a FAAB bid. The league played on Yahoo, but everything is run on Proboards.
we have a hard salary cap of $120, which we must adhere to year round. We can bid on any unowned player at any time through out the season (until the trade deadline), as long as we have $ available and a roster spot open on either the MLB or MiLB squad. I had to use some of my available cap $ to bid on him. Player is won when a bid stands for 24 hrs.

My fantasy team went about 7 for 35 today with 5 HRs, pretty funny day. Had Abreu, Alvarez, and JUpton. Maybe Trumbo will grab another one before the night is over.

So far my 2 dynasty teams have lost:

Matt Moore
Miguel Sano
Addison Russell
Lucas Giolito
Patrick Corbin
Jameson Taillon

Not sure if you guys know about these guys yet but they are essentially 4 of the top 30ish propspects in the game.

I dont think I'd do this deal.
I really dont like Taveras to be honest. Seems like hes always going to have leg problems, and Bryant/Correa might both make bigger impacts at the MLB level with the bat within a year.

Bradley would be a nice get, but Ventura isnt exactly a scrub, and its always a significant risk trading for any pitching prospects who have not yet thrown a pitch at the MLB level.

If you can work out a deal in advance to move Taveras + Correa for someone like Baez/Buxton/Springer or a a player who is already in the bigs and is cheap to keep, then Id probably do the deal.

Im really bummed about Russel. Was looking like a sure bet to be up by August if not much sooner so the A's could get Sogard out of the lineup, but now he will need a lot of luck just to get a Sept callup

How many guys do you keep? Can you move Taveras to your regular roster?

mannn

in one league i sold my soul for my prospects.

i mean i still have an insane crop. but it's still so early and im scared now.

thats for one of the leagues. 14 team league too, each team has 20 possible minor leaguers (though not everyone does).

Basically the meta in that league is everyone can be on a team for a max of 5 years and this is the 5th year so after this year all the original deals from the 1st season are coming to an end. Next year is going to have an insane free agent auction.

So I sold my soul this season, am eating a million players salary and have this minors and essentially my entire salary cap next season +10% extra i picked in one trade.

Next march can't come soon enough.

Danny Salazar worth a waiver bid? Someone dropped him in my 10man H2H, I'm position 2 in order and the guy in position 1 dropped him. 18th round pick in my league. What sort of round pick should I be looking at for using my waiver slot? 8 SP slots per week, 7 trans per week

cats: IP, QS, W, HLD, SV, K, K/9, K/BB, ERA, WHIP

Pitching is decent right now but I stream a lot:

Bumgarner
Lester
Gray
Liriano
Lynn
Burnett
Kluber (dunno what to do with him, gonna give him 1 more start)
Ubaldo (2-start stream add for this week)
E. Ramirez (dunno what to do with him, gonna give him 1 more start)
C. Morton (2-start stream add for this week)
Paxton - DL
Walker - DL

Ideally I'd like a 9 man core of the top 7 i listed and the people on the DL, but Salazar maybe be a worthwhile upgrade over some1 like Kluber or E. Ramirez
