I always wonder why we aren't allowed to pick up rookies anyway. I mean everyone has had a chance to add them in the draft anyway.

9 times out of 10 the rookie is already in someone else's minors anyway, which ESPN doesn't show you of course. And **** Baseball Reference for automatically breaking yearly stats into teams plus a total column. I could give a **** what teams he plays for *******s.

Yea I never really understood it either, it frustrating looking for FA to bc you have to cross check the first 50 available players to check if they are in someones minors.

I'm in agreement about the rookie rule. We now have more than 130 guys - probably 150-160 - on minor-league rosters, so if a guy doesn't make that cut, he's fairly marginal. I guess the only reason why you'd keep that rule is because a rookie pickup, if he breaks out, could be a huge boon, and you might want to auction them off when everyone has the chance to evaluate them, not just those who are following throughout the season. Of course, allowing us to add rookies is another way to keep people engaged.

One compromise that might work is to allow teams to add rookies, but they get dropped and thrown into the FA pool at the end of the season. Just to make sure everyone has a shot at them, and the game doesn't become too much about taking flyers on rookies mid-season and hoping one hits.

Anyway, something to consider in the off-season. I expect we'd want to review this rule, and the one that rookies have to be called up if traded mid-season.
