I hate the 6/7 spots. The first two rounds are OK as you can snag a top WR and second tier RB. It's the 3rd and 4th that suck. All the second tier WR's and RB's are usually gone (and there's a serious dropoff to the next tier for both) as are Brady/Brees/Manning. Sometimes Manning's still there and I take him for lack of a better idea but I usually wind up with Barber/TJ Housh or Welker/Grant.

I'd be down with Welker + Grant behind a combo of Fitz/AJ + Gore/Portis/Jacobs/etc.

Fitz/AJ/Gore or Jacobs..that would be nice..

So I put together my big board for my first 4 rounds, this is a PPR league and I have the 6th picks. Forgot, its a 12 team league

Code:
1. MoJoD
2. ADP
3. Matt Forte
4. Steven Jackson
5. Andre Johnson
6. Larry Fitzgerald
7. DeAngelo Williams
8. Michael Turner
9. Steve Slaton
10. Chris Johnson
11. Randy Moss
12. Frank Gore
13. Calvin Johnson
14. LaDanian Tomlinson
15. Reggie Wayne
16. Brian Westbrook
17. Drew Brees
18. Greg Jennings
19. Brandon Jacobs
20. Roddy White
21. Steve Smith
22. Wes Welker
23. Marques Colston
24. Anquan Boldin
25. Marion Barber
26. Clinton Portis
27. Tom Brady(this is really low)
28. Peyton Manning
29. Ronnie Brown
30. Pierre Thomas
31. Dwayne Bowe
32. TJ Housh
33. Ryan Grant
34. Terrell Owens
35. Kevin Smith
36. Aaron Rodgers
37. Ocho
38. Roy Williams
39. Run DMC
40. Phillip Rivers
41. Vincent Jackson
42. Marshawn Lynch
43. Brandon Marshall
44. Reggie Bush
45. Derrick Ward
46. Desean Jackson
47. Anthony Gonzalez
48. Jason Witten
49. Braylon Edwards
50. Donovan McNabb
The League is QB/RB/WR/Flex/Flex/TE/K/DEF and its 1xPPR with 4pt TDs for QBs everything else standard with added bonus points for long TDs.(defense is 10 points for shutout, 0 for 2pts+ so only a shutout scores, everything else is standard).

I am undervaluing TEs and QBs due to me feeling that with a stud top 3 picks I can compete no matter what. I'm just curious what other people think about this. I hate the 6th spot, haha.

Needle:

Your list looks pretty solid, I'd jiggle a few things but nothing major. I'd switch Slaton and Deangelo but they're pretty close. I'd have LT a little higher, he still caught 52 passes last year injuries and all. Are you worried that they're going to start using Sproles more, maybe even as a third down back?

I might take Wayne above megatron given the QB situation in Detroit; I think he's the safer pick, but with a lower ceiling. I'd have TJ Housh above Bowe. No one has more receptions over the last 3 years than TJ. He still had 92 last year with Ryan Fitzpatrick as his QB for most of the year.

The QB's seem in the right spots given the scoring rules.

I think you should have Reggie Bush quite a bit higher for PPR. His health is a pretty big concern, but he averaged over 5 catches per game last year. Running the numbers, it looks like he got 168 points in the 10 games he played. I've seen some PPR rankings that had him in the top 15 among RBs.

I'd also have LT up a little higher. If you are worried about injuries no issues though.

I did a non-ppr mock draft from the 6 spot on ff calculator and this is the team I ended up with:

QB: Matt Schaub, David Garrard
RB: Steven Jackson, Ronnie Brown, Knowshon Moreno, Tim Hightower, Ricky Williams
WR: Steve Smith, Eddie Royal, Jerricho Cotchery, Josh Morgan, Chris Henry
TE: Jason Witten
PK: Mason Crosby
TD: Dallas Cowboys

Obviously I'm a little weak at QB but if Schaub stays healthy he could end up putting up top 5 numbers so I'm happy with the upside there. At the other positions I'm also happy and although I'm not especially high on Moreno I got him in the 5th round, which I thought was good value.

I've done a couple of drafts from this spot now and the biggest hole for me seems to be in the 4th round. There wasn't much that I thought that was good value available there either time and so in this one I was the first to take a TE, which I very rarely do, but I liked how it turned out for this team.

I was going to suggest earlier that in that kind of spot, after in the first 3 or 4 rounds you've gone RB/WR/WR, RB/RB/WR, or RB/WR/QB, maybe it's a good time to grab somebody like Witten or Gates.

Yeah, I think it's probably a fairly decent strategy for drafting from this spot. I personally prefer going RB/WR/RB rather than any other combination too because I prefer having something like Jennings/Smith and Brown/Thomas as my 2nd and 3rd picks over Jacobs/Portis and Bowe/Owens. That's a matter of taste though I think.

yeah, I didn't necessiarly mean in those orders, just those three combos of three players

needle,

i think you have every single QB on your list too high. with ppr, a WR that's getting something like 65 catches a year is getting the equivalent of an entire passing touchdown every single game. a RB that's merely adequate out of the backfield is getting the equivalent of 50 passing yards per game extra. i would only start to consider taking brees at 16 in a non-ppr league if everyone before me had drafted optimally, which basically never happens. any player that isn't just a turner who can run but can't catch is so much more valuable than a QB pro rata in this format.

point is i think listing five QB's over bush in ppr is hilariously bad

Thank you very much for the input guys. Thats why I posted it before my draft at 8:30 tonight.

Bush was clearly an oversight though I am worried about his health. I guess I should not be from the sounds of it. I do wonder what his role in the offense will be with the emergence of Thomas, if Thomas is just going to be Deuce than Bush becomes a stud in PPR, if Thomas acts as part Deuce part Reggie then I think Bush gets hurt from it. Either way, I'm sure that if he is there in the 4th I'm taking him.

As for LDT I'm iffy on him, I'm just afraid to get burned by having a 1st round RB fall on his face. The Slaton/Williams is very close and am willing to flipflop. I've moved my QBs lower on the chart, Brees now at 20, Brady at 30, Rodgers, Rivers and McNabb now drop out of the top 40. I expect them to be taken so I'll be targeting Cutler as my QB in the 7th or 8th.

Thanks for the input guys, any other critcisms I'm more than willing to hear about. This is my highest $$$ league so I want to do it right.

Edit: I've moved Housh up(30) and I've moved Welker to 19. Sound ok?

Screw it, this is the updated list. LDT is the only one I really didn't move.

Anyway, I just got back from practice, need to shower and eat. Like I said the draft is at 8:30 est, come back and check this in a little bit. Again, thank you for any input. Let me know how that current top 50 looks.

FWIW, after that top 50 I'm basically just gonna go FFC ADP style. Haven't had a whole lot of time to go beyond that 50, I always figured the top 4-5 rounds was the most important, I'll try to add another 25 to that prior to the draft though.

Although I don't care for any of your friend's late round picks (except Garrard) I think what he did in the first 9 rounds is kind of awesome. No reaches, a few studs, good value and upside.

IDK about your team...it's just kinda bleh to me, not terrible but u just happen to have guys not in line with my personal preference.

need some advice on a trade. don't want to bug my friend to ask him. i've never played fantasy before.

ME = my team

Quote:
ME trades Texans D/ST, Hou D/ST to Austin
ME trades LeSean McCoy, Phi RB to Austin
AUST trades Vikings D/ST, Min D/ST to ME
AUST trades Michael Jenkins, Atl WR to ME
seems like a good trade. i was the last person to pick a D/ST so i'd love to upgrade them to the 3rd or so best defence. i do lose what is likely a secondary RB for the 3rd receiver for the falcons. should i accept the trade?
here's my team below.

Quote:
QB Matt Schaub, Hou QB [Breaking News]

RB Maurice Jones-Drew, Jac RB

RB Pierre Thomas, NO RB Q [Breaking News]

RB/WR Jonathan Stewart, Car RB Q [Breaking News]

WR Reggie Wayne, Ind WR [Recent News]

WR Santonio Holmes, Pit WR [Breaking News]

TE Dustin Keller, NYJ TE

D/ST Texans D/ST, Hou D/ST

K Robbie Gould, Chi K

Bench Ben Roethlisberger, Pit QB Q [Breaking News]

Bench LeSean McCoy, Phi RB [Recent News]

Bench Domenik Hixon, NYG WR

Bench Chris Chambers, SD WR

Bench Joey Galloway, NE WR [Recent News]

McCoy >> Jenkins = any waiver wire WR. I don't think that makes up for the difference between the Vikings & Texans D. Bad trade.

Yeah, no way i'm givin up McCoy for the upgrade in DEF. Unless this is a 16 team league and everyone drafted 2 DEF's, I would just play the waiver wire. Look 2-3 weeks ahead and rotate 2 DEF's.

You need more depth at RB. You only drafted 4 and 2 of them have the same bye week. Parker and Benson aren't bad picks but I would have also tried to snag a rookie or younger guy with a high upside.

thanks. could you or anyone else give me general criticism about my fantasy team and what positions i should look to upgrade?

well most of it is just preference, I don't like DAW there with Moss, AJ, and LT on the board. also like Portis in the second more. Peyton there, meh, I guess it's alright considering you went RB/WR. I might take Gates over Bowe but that's an alright pick there. I would have just drafted very differently from the get-go.

Your RB's are fine. QB's too. WR could be better.
Not sure how to realistically improve via trade. I personally wouldn't want to deal Schaub for a worse QB. Maybe try to package MJD, Holmes, and Ben for something like Westbrook, Colston, and a lousy backup QB...
Cut Donald Lee and pick up another RB.

Yah I'd have probably gone Moss/Westbrook. Manning is ok, maybe even Bowe...
Witten in the 5th would be to me a snap-pick; though in looking at it further it would make your RB's kinda suck.
