I managed to forget about a draft last night. Auto Draft didn't go as bad as I thoguht it would:

Quote:
(2Matt Kemp (LAD - OF)
(23)Roy Halladay (Phi - P)
(26)Curtis Granderson (NYY - OF)
Cole Hamels (Phi - P)
Elvis Andrus (Tex - SS)
Craig Kimbrel (Atl - P)
Jon Lester (Bos - P)
Chase Utley (Phi - 2B)
Jimmy Rollins (Phi - SS)
Drew Storen (Was - P)
Matt Wieters (Bal - C)
Ryan Howard (Phi - 1B)
Alex Avila (Det - C)
Josh Beckett (Bos - P)
Chris Carpenter (StL - P)
David Freese (StL - 3B)
Ervin Santana (LAA - P)
Dexter Fowler (Col - OF)
Jaime García (StL - P)
Alejandro De Aza (CWS - OF)(242)
Grady Sizemore (Cle - OF)
Mitch Moreland (Tex - 1B,OF
Torii Hunter (LAA - OF)
Ian Desmond (Was - SS)
Jhoulys Chacin (Col - P)
Bud Norris (Hou - P)
Jason Kubel (Ari - OF)
(335)Chipper Jones (Atl - 3B)
So the 4 guys I really didn't want are Chase Utley, Ryan Howard, Grady Sizemore, and Chipper.. Besides those 4, and a lack of power, I like the team.

What is the deal with Utley? Are both of his knees just done? Trying to decide to pick up CI's or try to trade for a better 2B

This league is a little different as it only allows 7 SP max on a roster at any given time (meaning pitchers who actually currently start this yr, regardless of what eligibilty Yahoo gives them), so the perception is that top end SP is more valuable than normal.
1 UTILITY slot, 9 starting hitters total.
6x6
we count Hits and OBP, not average.
added QS to pitching.

We keep any 4 without draft/round penalties, I have
Ellsbury, Cargo, Granderson, Kinsler

i have the last pick in a snake, so 10th overall pick, do not have a 2nd round pick, then i have the #30 and #31 picks in rounds 3/4.

Best players available are (for my team):
SP - weaver, greinke, price, lester, madbum, moore, latos, darvish
OF stanton, jennings
1B - konerko, morse
3b/ss - castro, lawrie, zimmerman, Arod, beltre, andrus

with my first pick do i take the best player regardless of position?
1) ie if Stanton is still there do i grab him no questions asked even tho i already have my OF set (lock him into UT)? then target 2 of Lester/Moore/Latos/Bum back to back with my #30/31?
2) Or should I target a SP with my first pick no matter what?

right now im thinking my preference with that #10 pick is:
Stanton, Castro, Weaver, Greinke, Lawrie, Zimmerman, Arod, Konerko, Price, Lester.
And then with my next 2 picks,
grab 2 SP if i drafted a bat first,
or take 1 SP and the best 1B/3B/SS available with the other pick.

but maybe there are flaws with this strategy that im not seeing?
grab 2 SP if i already have
Imo, you have a good plan here.

This early in a draft, I think you should always just be looking to draft the best player available, no questions asked. In this case, it's definitely Stanton.

Nitpicking, but I'd definitely rank Lawrie, Zimmerman and your SP targets ahead of A-Rod, Konerko and Castro.

Balfour will be closing in Oakland.

Higher priority than Broxton and Holland.

Hey guys I'm a big fantasy footballer but just picked up a team in a keeper league for baseball.

I'm a bit of a noob but have played in the past. We get 6 keepers and this is who I've chose:

1b David Wright I guess he kinda sucked last year but I gotta keep him right?

SS Sharlin Castor I think this a no brainer.

OF Desmond Jennings Young player coming on strong?

1b/UTIL Freddie Freeman Young player coming on strong?

3b/OF Martin Prado I guess he was good but hurt last year?

SP James Shields Only real Ace I have

Was wondering if I'm keeping to many position players.

Other players worth consideration maybe: Michael Bourn, Carlos Quentin, Shaun Marcum, Tim Hudson, Jair Jurrjens.

I kind of want to keep Jurrjens and drop a position player but worried about him getting hurt.

Thanks for any suggestions!

I'd keep Bourn and win me some SB's and Runs

That's a truly epicly bad keeper team unless that's a 20 team league or something.

he could be in one of those

"keep and you lose the pick for the round you drafted the guy" type leagues

although i duno why hed keep david wright then

ha yeah like I said i inherited it. Anyway the rules are that if you keep two players= first 2 rounds, 6 players= first 6 rounds first pick in the 7th.

Doesn't matter where they got drafted, so I'm assuming everyone is going to keep six players but will the remaining pool still be good enough to not keep 6 players?

who are the ones I "have" to keep. I want to keep shields and castro bare min.

how many teams?

what will/does your draft pool look like, do you know?

i would assume most people are keeping 6, so 1st round talent in the draft = roughly 7~8th round talent in a redraft league im guessing.

at quick glance castro/shields/wright seem to be your only top 70 players

maybe just keep the 3 and take the 3 higher picks?

If you're the only one who keeps 2, do you get the first 4 picks?
if so, that

This is in my super deep H2H points league. 12 teams, each slot is a starter if i list a position next to it.

C- Yadier Molina
C- Carlos Ruiz
1B - Adrian Gonzalez
2B - Robby Cano
SS - Bartlett
3B - Michael Young
1B/3B - Konerko
2B/SS - Zobrist
LF - Carlos Lee
CF - Coco Crisp
RF - Nick Swisher
OF - Matt Joyce
OF - Aubrey Huff
Util - Gamel
Bench - Ty Wigginton

SP - Cole Hamels, Matt Moore, Matt Garza, Daniel Hudson, Shaun Marcum, Ervin Santana, Huroki Kuroda, John Niese

Max 10 starts per week so SP also has added value.

What you guys think?

entirely depends on points system but you have a lot of guys i wouldn't draft like konerko/young/lee and i don't particularly like your pitchers either. in fact your team does not pass the eye test imo

fair enough, i agree konerko and young and lee aren't ideal but drafting in a 12 team league this deep there will be weak points but konerko is still a damn good hitter.

12 Team NL only keeper league, keeping 1 of the following 3... Brandon Belt @ $23 (not increasing until 2015), Danny Espinosa $10 (increasing $5/year on out), Logan Morrison $10 (increasing $5/year on out)?

edit: I'm set up nicely to make a run at winning it all this year

Total MLB noob interested in learning as I go, but I have an auction draft (H2H) coming up where I will be completely outclassed.

1) Roster consists of 22 starters (1 per infield, 5 OF, 1 UTIL, 4 P, 3 SP, 2 RP) and 7 Bench. Are there certain positions (IF, OF, P) I should be drafting backups for, or after I have every position filled should it just be BPA?

2) Lastplayerpicked has a price guide which generates player price value based on my league settings. Are these values relatively reliable to go off of? Some positions have a very limited number of players with a positive $ value.

Did this last year and you guys helped out big time.

Need to keep 4 players... 12-team league...

Definitely keeping:

1) Felix Hernandez
2) Albert Pujols

This is where I'm kind of stumped... have alot of average players, but very difficult to select 2 keepers out of this.... Possibilities:

Matt Weiters, David Wright, Jose Reyes, Starlin Castro, Andrew McCutchen, Jay Bruce, Michael Bourn...... and my best pitchers: Matt Cain, Brandon Morrow, Ricky Romero.

Right now... I'm learning towards Reyes and McCutchen..... Any suggestions? Obviously not alot to choose from.... Standard ESPN Fantasy scoring

If this is a dynasty league I would go Reyes and McCutchen. Take the 3 pitchers, Bourn, and Wright out of the equation IMO.

so here's my team. 12 team league, scoring is: R, H, HR, RBI, SB, AVG, OFA, DPT for batters and K, W, SV, ERA, WHIP for pitchers. not happy to have taken konerko but he was up there for a long time and i kinda just gave in.

quite a few people on autodraft so starters went earlier than they probably should have (this league is 8 batting categories and 5 pitching, as oppose to default which is 5v5 i believe), and i figured i'd just snag some reasonable starters towards the later rounds. not sure how i did, planning to drop juan pierre for justin morneau, aceves for liriano, and kotchman for belt, really had no idea what i was doing after the first like 12 rounds (much like everyone else in my league)

I think I'd not keep Felix and I'd keep Jay Bruce. Along with Reyes and McCutchen.

There will be lots of good pitching talent in the first rounds of the draft, but there aren't going to be many(if any) 30HR guys(and Bruce has a little upside for more).

It's really difficult to comment on a weird scoring system like that. Obviously your team is going to hit well, but your pitching is really really weak. I see no reasonable way you're going to compete in K's. So I'd be loading up on good ratio guys and guys who pitch for good teams and can get you wins.

Also. You can probably drop Vernon Wells too.

offense looks really good, but it looks like you need a starter or 2

dont really think you can count on aceves to be nearly as productive as a SP if he wins the job this year. buchholz/santana coming off injury. just alot of question marks and madbum is your only real solid starter.

the scoring btw is head-to-head, with each category you win being a point (so if i win all the batting categories and my opponent wins all the pitching categories, i'd win the matchup 8-5). i'll see what i can do in terms of improving the starter situation (aceves for liriano seems like a good start, cbs or w/e says liriano should be the twins #2 starter). mostly the people in my league hate trading (they do this in fantasy hockey too), so i think i may be stuck with crap starters for the entire season.

should i think about dropping someone like league/nathan for another starter to give myself a better shot at wins? during the draft i was thinking about building an offense to adjust to people drafting pitchers too early and having an offense-oriented scoring system and then grabbing a bunch of closers to guarantee SV and give myself a reasonable shot at ERA/WHIP every week. besides bumgarner, i think i drafted the rest of my starters (buchholz/santana/nova) in like the 18th+ round as guys with high upside that i can replace with waiver guys if they get injured/suck

thanks for the help btw

i think horton was talking more about the tyler clippard types?

good ratios for era/whip and can luckbox a bunch of wins here and there.

not worrying about K's because you cant compete without starters really.

out of curiosity, how does DPT work? does the 1b get credit for the DP? i would guess not, only the ones with an assist on the play. since you have hits as a category as well, seems like leadoff hitter type MI's would be fairly useful in that format.
