I mean, I get that the situation is actually pretty abstract and that all your players have zero use to you (outside of the one you can keep), but they still have real value in trades and you might have wasted that.

If I'm a team on the cusp of having a title shot, I'd happily give up my best player to get those 3 studs for a playoff run.

I wouldn't give up those three players for Babe Ruth in his prime

You all are missing the point that the players have no value to him, as they aren't good enough to be keepers and he is out of contention this year. The only factor to consider is whether he can do better than Votto as his second keeper, which is pretty difficult to say without knowing the league. If Votto is the best he can do, then he should do the trade.

If he cant do better than Votto then I would say there are at least 6 really stupid owners in his league.

Even without seeing any rosters of the teams in contention, i can say with 90% certainty that they would be making a horrible mistake by not making that trade for anyone single player on their roster that allinbwaby chooses.

Even if those positions are filled on their team by quality players already, they should be able to flip them to improve whatever weaknesses they have.

Big bump for some advice.

I have the Brewers in a Dynasty league (Standard ESPN H2H scoring) and I was just offered this deal. Thoughts?

Ryan Braun

for

Jeremy Hellickson
Desmond Jennings
Alex Cobb
Chris Archer
Josh Sale

That's a pretty huge package of young guys, and I'm very high on all of them actually. The only thing that worries me is the Rays staff being a little crowded. I feel like this deal is a big hit on my offense, but loads me up on pitching if and when Greinke/Marcum hit free agency next year (as well as make one of them available now or at the deadline for hitting if necessary) and might benefit me in the long run. I think Hellickson is as close to a sure thing as they come, Jennings was good in his short time last year, and the other three are legitimate prospects. Ryan Braun is well... Ryan Braun, a top 3 hitter in the game.

I would decline.

That's where I'm leaning right now. He said he's willing to trade anybody besides Matt Moore for Braun, I'm wondering what kind of counter offer I should send.

Make him overpay for Braun. Braun is like the #1 or #2 pick next year in almost every draft, legit 5 category stud with consistency. I mean it's nice to collect a ton of blue chips in dynasty leagues but they're all dogs to even sniff at a line like Braun had this year.

I'd decline as well. You hold all the leverage in this potential deal...if he wants Braun, make him pay up.

Re: Hellickson, there are a couple of potential red flags that owners should be aware of. A few people in the MLB thread pointed out that he had an extremely low 5.57 k/9 despite a 9.7% swinging strike rate, which might lead to higher strikeout totals next season. However, he had a .223 BABIP, 82% LOB and ended the season with a 4.44 xfip, so I wouldn't be surprised to see the ERA jump next year.

Yeah I've decided to hold off and see what other offers I get. Happened to get this offer from the Cards

Braun
1st round pick
for
Shelby Miller
Carlos Martinez
Tyrell Jenkins

I'm not willing to throw in the pick, but what do you guys think about Braun for those 3 straight? I mean Miller is probably the best pitching prospect in the game not named Moore, Martinez is not far behind, and Jenkins is a sold B+/A- top of the rotation guy as well. I'm considering asking for another lower level prospect (A/AA type with a high ceiling), but this offer really caught my attention.

why are you looking to trade braun??

Is your roster the same as the Brewers real life roster? If it is, you should probably be looking to win now rather than trading away Braun. The question is impossible to answer without knowing more about your roster tbh. Any offer from Tampa should include Moore though.

In a 28 team keeper Strat-O-Matic league (for those unfamiliar, it is a computer simulation type game so things like pitchers W-L and saves are irrelevant. OPS, WHIP etc very important. So this season/simulation upcoming will be based on 2011 stats)

I am thinking of trading Casey Kotchman for Johan Santana. Obviously will hurt me this year, is it worth the risk that Santana will come back as a front line starter?

Thoughts?

Thoughts are that it depends on your roster and whether you aim to be competitive this year. Kotchman has little long term value unless you think he can repeat this year - which is unlikely because he's not very good. Santana is a lottery ticket - nobody can really say what he'll be like next year.

Yeah it's the same as the current Brewers team. I'm struggling to decide between going for it, or stocking up on young close to mlb-ready talent to crush a couple years down the line. I've been getting a lot of offers for Greinke, Marcum, Braun and Weeks, so I'm just seeing how the market develops and if someone is willing to severely overpay for them then I don't see how I can pass it up for the future.

I was offered the 1st, 5th, and 7th round picks for my 2nd, 3rd, 4th round picks. Its a redraft league and we don't know where we will pick yet, so its a bit of a gamble, but am I taking a hit here? I hate not having a single pick in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th rounds. Leaning towards a decline, but if its even money I would do it, and if you wouldn't take this deal what would you need for a 2,3,4 combo?

It isn't ridiculous, but I can't really see a reason to do it. I might if it was, say, his 1,4 and 7 for your 2, 3 and 5. When you both pick is pretty crucial here though.

Dynasty league, my team probably isn't going to be overly competitive this year or maybe the next two years. I have the #1 pick in the prospect draft. 7 prospects per team, I've only got 1 or 2 carrying over from previous years. Most of the absolute mega-elite prospects have been snagged up in previous years, but obviously Darvish/Cespedes/etc all qualify so I get first crack at them.

I offered the #1 overall + Lilly for Cahill. Thoughts? Assuming I'm turned down, how much is Cahill > Darvish? Or is he not at all iyo?
