What did you have? What did you have?

When a person asks me did you have so and so a hand i usually tell them lessons cost extra buddy, but should i try and convince they made a good laydown to my bluff or try make them feel good by saying well played probably putting them in a tighter mode

What trates do you want the other player to have before trying to advertise an image. and most importanly when can this be good or bad

thoughts??

This isn't really a "poker theory" question imo but I'll let it slide.

There's two approaches I find valid, both come from Tommy Angelo:

* "You know I am unable to tell the truth about what I had"
* "I had aces"

Some other good ones frequently mentioned here when people ask:

Jacks.
Gee Johnny, I dont remember.
I had it.
I didn't have it.
The winner.
Quads.

As far as poker THEORY goes, well... I think there is a solvable problem here. We should determine whichever way opponent makes mistakes, and encourage them to make even more in that direction. If they think we always have it, and always fold on the river, we should consider even showing them some winners when they fold on the river, and always claim we had it when we didnt. If they are far too skeptical of us, then we should always say we had quads on an unpaired board, or the flush when theres a rainbow... And then we should proceed to exploit their tendancies whenever possible.

My generic answer is either "nothing special," or "the same thing you had."

I sometimes tell the truth, I sometimes lie.

For me though its player dependent, if its someone I have played on a few occasions and they have perhaps seen me bluff in certain spots then I will sometimes show them a winner.

Sometimes I will also under rep my hand and to mirror what I think my opponent had. I find that this invokes tilt in so many players.

"I don't remember" is my standard. I may respond with something else in specific situations, but my general approach is to give them nothing, and not remembering seems to do this well.

ok next time if it's a tilty player i'll tell them i had a royal quads ect,, if it's a tight player i'll occasionally show them i had them and if it's a good hand reader i'll say lesson cost extra

"I don't know what I'm doing" is one of my favorites. Also like "quads" on non-paired boards.

It should depend on your style. My style in live poker is mostly stealing pots, so I would say good fold everytime. If you are a tight nit, then show some bluffs.

I like lying as much as possible and to make it blatantly obvious. Even when I mix the truth in no one believes me.
