Damn, I didn't have my sarcasm detector on either...now I get it.

The strange thing with nits however, is that they can make "crazy" plays sometimes, like calling with a gutshot straightdraw, which I dont get.

I remember a hand with a nit, I had K7. Raise preflop, flop a pair, 3 to a invisible straight on the turn (i.e. gutshot), then trip up on the river. Thats my stack, you know.

I just keep thinking to myself whether these situations are unlucky and unavoidable or if I can do something about them. Sometimes I just see the weirdest cards shown from nitty players.

What you experience is you actually getting to the nit, he probably is a bit upset that he doesn't get you to show him more respect. Noone likes to be run over for a long time, so sometimes nits spazzes and make a really bad play. They are humans too you know. I've had nits overbetshove 3bs in positions where it really is just horrible spew with the holdings they have.

All they are about is patience to wait for hands and let frequency do the work for them. When they lose their temper, everything that is left is just a player without any sound theoretical concept or any knowledge about the game. When their fasad cracks, they simply turn out to be horrible.

imo

They may not be nits. Usually the only time I play HU is at the end of a tourney so I don't know how applicable this may be to a cash game, but up against a by-the-book aggressive opponent I will often intentionally become tight/passive with the occasional mix of loose/passive.

I know exactly what sort of game my opponent is playing, and I'm not really interested in getting in there and playing back in a similar fashion. I'm looking for big, weird hands that are going to hurt him very badly and hopefully tilt him. FPS in effect.

It usually works out very well for me, but again it's at the end of a sometimes very long tourney. Might very well be suicide in a cash game.

Tourney play is sooooooooo different. Inability to reload makes each chip worth more. Also stacks are usually much more shallow than in a normal heads up cash game match. I could definitely see your mindset though Zik and do think it is a good strategy in the tourney arena.
