I thinking about buying cardrunners ev, but Im not very used to doing ev calculations or knowing when to do them. Im assuming somtimes we might not have enough information. Should they be done in every hand, somtimes, occasionally? I frequent the ssnl forum and don't see people doing math always.

EV and exact equity calculations are nearly impossible to perform at the table and impractical for online play when you're in a hand and have calculators/software available to perform them.

What you should be doing is using equity tools away from the table to review common scenarios or interesting hands that are relevant to your bottom line during hand review.

You should always try to maximize your EV. But since you don't have time to analyze every hand after your session, you have to decide which spots to look at.

There's several reasons why people in the SSNL forum don't always do math. Some people don't use a mathematical approach at all. Other times people are sure which line is best without doing any math. And finally, your chances of getting a hand analysis with detailed calculations aren't too good because people don't want to give out that kind of information for free anymore.
