adapting preflop range when facing larger 3bets adapting preflop range when facing larger 3bets

In my pool it often arises I open 2.5x from CO and BTN 3bets to 10BB, sometimes even 12BB. Some of the players seem to use only the big, "non standard" size. I wonder how the response range should be adapted, are there some rule of thumbs ?

Let's take GTOw "simples" ranges for NL50 for example

For a mixed fold/call/4bet hand like A5s, I think we call less (probably not at all vs 10BB) and switch to 4bet/fold.

What about the mixed 4bet/call hands like JTs ? Do we just put the "call" part into "fold" now and keep about the same amount of 4bet? I doubt it, but I have no clue.

if you were 100bb eff you could just do a 4b or fold strat against that big of a size. You wouldn't be giving up much theoretical ev and it would be a big simplificiation.

How wide you go with the 4b really depends on the composition of the range from the ip player... I'd imagine just folding JTs is fine, though.

At high rake and against large 3b sizes I'd just cut out any of the 0EV hands like A5s, A4s, etc.

Then I'd just pure 4bet hands like ATs, KJs, KTs

Also make sure you pay attention if they showdown, because I know there are some players that literally only 3b big when they have a strong hand.

Yes, I think I have both flavors in my pool: those who 3bet big with big hands and those who 3bet big no matter what. I'm more interested in the second flavor, because managing the first one is easy.

OK, I'll try to pure 4bet more hands and see where it goes. I will be sad if I have to 4bet/fold AJs, but oh well. Thanks for the answers!

Also probably more 4bet shoves with hands like AK and JJ.
